Too late for that. You do it in winter when the snow is still on the ground. The maple sap starts running here in late February as a rule, and is done well before the first day of spring.

We have a more practical problem with it though. Our maples are silver maple, not sugar maple. They have sap, but it's not sugary enough to make syrup from probably. There are sugar maples growing in the area, but not on our land. And I won't be planting them because the leaves and bark are toxic to horses. :(
