Well, took the day off work and mostly slept through it, hoping to be better for tomorrow when I really must be there at least for my late shift. Ugh. And there's a snowstorm predicted for those hours. Maybe the library will be empty. I can only hope.

My brain is too muzzy to write anything witty, so here's a set of rather unusual groups of four from [livejournal.com profile] hgryphon:

FOUR JOBS YOU'VE HAD IN YOUR LIFE:
  1. Veterinarian's assistant
  2. Camp counselor
  3. Mainframe systems programmer
  4. Librarian

FOUR MOVIES YOU COULD WATCH OVER AND OVER:
  1. The Desk Set (Hepburn and Tracy, yeah!)
  2. Son of the Sheik (Rudolph Valentino silent)
  3. Camelot
  4. Spirit, Stallion of the Cimmaron

FOUR PLACES YOU'VE LIVED IN:
  1. Melvindale, MI
  2. East Lansing, MI
  3. Chicago, IL

FOUR TV SHOWS YOU LOVE TO WATCH: (None of them current)
  1. Dr Who (old series, haven't seen the new)
  2. Star Trek, the Next Generation
  3. Bonanza (guess who had a crush on Michael Landon back when...)
  4. All Creatures Great and Small

FOUR PLACES YOU'VE BEEN ON VACATION:
  1. The Grand Canyon
  2. San Francisco, CA
  3. Isle Royale National Park (in Lake Superior up near Canada)
  4. Shawnee National Forest, southern IL

FOUR WEBSITES YOU VISIT DAILY:
  1. LiveJournal (natch)
  2. Earthlink (my primary e-mail provider)
  3. WikiFur
  4. FurRag.com

FOUR OF YOUR ALL-TIME FAVORITE RESTAURANTS:
  1. Beggar's Banquet, East Lansing, MI (dunno if it's still there)
  2. Mama Peaches, Chicago, IL (long gone, much regretted)
  3. Small Planet, East Lansing, MI (probably gone too)
  4. Blind Faith, Evanston, IL

FOUR OF YOUR FAVORITE FOODS:
  1. eggplant parmigiana with vegetable marinara sauce and cheese garlic bread
  2. pizza (my own home made, with almost anything on it, well, maybe hold the pineapple and spam chunks)
  3. fish and chips (well, you can't eat healthy ALL the time)
  4. salmon patties (the way my mate makes them)

FOUR SCHOOLS YOU'VE ATTENDED:
  1. Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI
  2. Seabury Western Theological Seminary, Evanston, IL
  3. DePaul University, Chicago, IL
  4. Dominican University, River Forest, IL (it was called Rosary College back then)

FOUR PLACES I'D RATHER BE RIGHT NOW:
  1. in bed, not alone
  2. on horseback
  3. Valdemar
  4. somewhere in non-urban Michigan

I never could quite accept the fifth Doctor... the actor portraying him was still Tristan from All Creatures Great and Small to me. He played that role so well I couldn't shake that image of him.

I thought he did rather well, though following in Tom Baker's footsteps had to be incredibly hard. Peter Davison is a very flexible actor. He also did a detective series for the BBC that is quite good.

My favorites as the Dr are Baker, of course, immediately followed by Jon Pertwee, who I enjoyed immensely. Patrick Troughton was really good too, and it's unfortunate that all his episodes have not survived. It seems funny to think of things made in "modern" times being casually lost the way silent films were.

As for crossovers from All Creatures Great and Small, seeing Siegfried Farnon suddenly appear as Cornelius Fudge in the Harry Potter movies was disorienting for me. There are also a couple of All Creatures episodes where Patrick Troughton appeared as an itinerant farmhand with a sick dog.

Sorry to hear you got that cold. I hope you get a nice quiet library tomorrow and less snow than predicted.

Salmon patties... it's been years since I've had them. Now I'm hungry. :)

Yeah, now that I think of it, maybe I'll use being sick to coax Gary into making some of those. Actually, they aren't difficult. Nor expensive. I watch for canned salmon to be on sale at the market and nab one whenever it is. We always have a can or two on hand.
