In like a Lion, out with Lambs...
Mar. 21st, 2005 03:45 pmWell, while I was entering the previous post, partner ran out to the barns to feed horses and sheep before we dashed to the vet. He came right back in and asked me to come help. Twin lambs had just been born.
We've known for a while that lambs were coming sometime soon, but didn't notice any real signs that it would be quite yet. Anyway, still wet, two tiny ewes, one white, one black. After watching for a few minutes I knew which of the mature ewes was their mother, and we proceeded to sort her out and send the rest of the flock outdoors. Then I put the two lambs in the lambing "jug" and we worked on getting their mom, Pepper, to join them there. She's a good mother, so it didn't take long once she realized where they were.
Still managed to get to the vet in time, too. Lambs are doing well, eating on their own now. Pictures tomorrow, maybe.
