One nice day
May. 14th, 2009 07:45 pmBetween the storms. Rather like the famous calm when the halcyon was supposed to nest upon the waves and lay her eggs without being disturbed. Unfortunately, it's supposed to last only for a day and then more thunderstorms tomorrow. Last night there was a tornado watch and several severe thunderstorm warnings.
Pastures are as squishy as a wet sponge. Tess has a big chip out of one front hoof but she's not limping or anything so I took her out and let her go squashing around in the wet grass for an hour anyway. The moisture is supposed to keep her hooves from being so brittle, and she has been doing well for about a year up until today.
Gary has gone to listen to a presentation on "How to lower your property taxes" given by the county treasurer. I declined because I knew it would make me more angry than could be justified by anything useful learned. I expect a lot of it is going to consist of "Write to your legislator and demand property tax relief" and "Vote Republican, we'll cut your taxes" (which is simply not true, the entire executive government of this county is Republican and they still keep raising the taxes every year. When property values decline, they change the "multiplier" or something in order to make sure the revenue keeps increasing anyway.
The new antenna has stayed up through two heavy thunderstorms now. I thought it was sagging a bit this morning, but it must have just been the support ropes stretching a bit while wet. This afternoon it was back up where it belonged. Now if we'd just get a few sunspots back.
