Somewhat better
Jul. 23rd, 2010 09:05 pmEspecially for a Friday. I think the summer reading frenzy is about done. This was the last week, the final pool party is on Sunday. There will be stragglers looking for late prizes for a while, but it should be pretty well done with. Now we move into the summer doldrum until school starts again. Adults are on vacations, away from home. Kids are not thinking of reading for the most part. Things should be calm for nearly a month.
Sarah is doing well, except every now and then she gets it into her head to lick or chew at the bandage. She will do that in spite of all the precautions taken, including soaking the outer layer with the nastiest tasting aversive you can imagine. It's called "bitter apple" and I've tasted it myself. No yucky face is sufficient to describe it.
After dinner tonight she managed to dig through the outer layer. Fortunately, it was doubly bandaged, so she didn't get down to the healing wound at all before being caught. But Gary panicked. The outer layer of vet wrap was dark blue, but the inner layer put on at the vet was bright red. He thought it was blood. I had to remove the whole thing and redo it, which wouldn't have been too bad except that he was all panicky and shaky and so she got panicked to and started struggling against us. Still it was accomplished, without blood or injury to anyone, just injured pride. If she does that again, the cone collar goes on. This shouldn't be necessary. It's healing nicely and even in all the struggle and fuss did not break open and bleed. That's excellent. Having to go through this all is not. Thank Epona for vetwrap. We didn't have such a miracle material for bandages when I was in school. Makes it so much easier.
Heavy weather passed on both sides of us today, but all we got was a little rain and a lot of thunder. Tomorrow Gary and Rob have another Civil War thingie, and I'm not sure the weather is very promising but they're planning to go anyway. As I think I said yesterday, the pressure is off for me to do anything other than knit and weave to meet my fair submission deadlines.
Oh, and the two revived UPSes were put back into service this morning without any trouble. One of them had been completely dead from the time it was handed over to me. I didn't realize that they won't even turn on if the battery is too far gone, but apparently that's the case. A battery replacement and an overnight charge with no load brought both of them up to full charge and they pass their own diagnostic, so...
