Donner und Blitzen
Mar. 20th, 2011 07:29 pmMit die Loudenboomers yet! Not only that, but hail. It must be spring all right. We were out at Farm & Fleet getting animal supplies and some oddments like new rubber boots for Gary and a replacement socket for a lamp when the thunder started in earnest. It had already done some bangs and flashes and we had a half inch or so of rain this morning, but this one went through with lots of noise and energy. The rain came down hard, but had stopped by the time we headed for the car. No sign of hail there, but at home when I went to put the new wiper blades I'd just purchased onto my parked car, the drain trough at the bottom of the windshield was filled with melting hail. Later I discovered piles of pea sized hail along the sides of the arena where it must have bounced or rolled from the metal roof. I'll bet that was some racket inside, though Tess seemed calm enough when I went in there.
Total rainfall must have been between one and two inches. Even though our rain gauge wasn't out yet, there are certain benchmarks: water starts to puddle in the dog's yard at the west side (more than 1/2 inch,) water trickle across the boys' barn floor north to south (more than an inch in a short time,) but no surface flow in the pasture (so less than two inches.) Creek is within its banks until we get four inches in a 24 hour period.
So spring comes in like a lion. No brilliant full moon tonight either due to rainclouds. Though the temperature is supposed to rise during the night, with additional thunderstorms at least before midnight.
Changing windshield wipers is like a Chinese puzzle. Every time I have to do it, they seem to work a different way. I might have left it until the car goes in for service next month or so, but the rear one was starting to shred. Eventually I did get the old ones off, which is the tricky part, and the new ones on, which is usually easier. I can do a lot of stuff, but fixing cars just doesn't interest me. Consequently this is a mini-achievement. I even started the engine and ran the wipers and washers to make sure they wouldn't go flying off when I actually need them. ;p
Noticed almost by accident that I just crossed the one million credit line on BOINCstats. If you don't know what that means, don't worry about it. It's not a game, anyway.
