Wednesday again
Jul. 20th, 2011 09:32 pmI was born on a Wednesday. It should be my day, right? So why is it usually the worst day of any week?
Work was a zoo, the norm these days. Door count at 8 pm was 1398, with 111 in the last hour from 7 to 8 pm. It seemed every time I had to check out books to someone, they didn't have their library card. Not only that, but they seemed surprised when I asked for it. Not only do I not know everyone in Harvard (pop. 9900 at the last census) on sight, but I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for the card. We're supposed to be telling everyone that we will soon require the card for every checkout, whether we know you or not, but somehow I have a feeling that is never going to actually materialize.
Heat has peaked today, we hope. Heat index was 110F this afternoon, the real temperature hovering in the 96F range. a little cooler by Friday they say, but back up over the weekend and still no rain. Horses are outdoors again tonight. (At least the month of dry weather has eliminated most of the mosquitoes. I worry about mosquito-born disease leaving horses out at night here.)
Time for bed. I'll just get depressed if I stay awake any longer.
