Let it snow, let it snow...
Jan. 18th, 2007 05:55 pmIt's been snowing all day, and shows no sign of stopping at dusk. Not that it's any great blizzard, though. This is that fine, sugary stuff that clings to your clothes and gets in your eyes but doesn't seem to amount to a lot. Perhaps a half inch or so has accumulated since this morning, but it is getting heavier now. I see they are predicting another inch overnight. Well, that's more seasonable than the temperatures of 50 and more that we were getting earlier this month, and not horribly cold either. Usually here if it's snowing that means the temperature is fairly close to freezing. Currently 29°F./-2°C.
Since Tess needs to get her feet wet more, I took her out and let her play in the snow. She was out for about 90 minutes this afternoon while I cleaned barns and stuff. Eager enough to go out, as usual, but once she got out there and saw that the grass was all covered with white stuff, she wasn't quite so happy. I tossed a little hay on top of the snow and that settled her, though she was suspicious of the heavy equipment working in the field to the north of her pasture, where they are building a horrid subdivision. Truck after truck full of gravel was being hauled in and dumped to make a huge pile two stories high, apparently. I don't know why. Anyway, Tess didn't like the noises or the fact that she could see the trucks moving around through the trees. She stayed at the south end only, within a few feet of the gate, the whole time she was out there. At least she got her feet wet and got some exercise, and behaved reasonably well going and coming.
Tonight is a crucial phase in our revolt against the Big Messed-Up Consortium. My own library's main board is meeting, as is the board of the large library district that we MUST have on our side in order to succeed in our breakaway. Both boards must approve the recommendations of the directors. I expect my own library will pass easily enough, since the funding has already been guaranteed by our separate endowment board. We aren't entirely sure what to expect at the other library district though. Hooves crossed. At this point it will be a genuine pleasure to show our tails to the power hungry idiots who have been running the large group.
Now that everyone else is fed and bedded down, I'm getting hungry myself. Must go find something to eat...
