Home, chores done, made it through.

This was the centennial party. I ended up mostly taking care of the musicians, making sure they had what they needed, which was fine. They invited me to sit in on a couple of sets, which was also fun. Party was a success, despite a severe storm watch for the whole afternoon and some very ugly clouds. Spelling bee was kinda worrisome but no surprise, with kids missing out on words like "alphabet" and "naughty". Unexpected (no one told me) was an extra award of appreciation presented by the mayor to my boss: a framed certificate that included the key to the City of Harvard. She has been library director since 1982 and started working there in 1979, and is very well-liked, but it's a low key job that rarely gets the credit due for the work put into it. This was a nice gesture at least.

Music was very well received, which is nice for the Bear Creek folks. I think there were a huge number of cookies with the number "100" on top in icing that remained uneaten at the end of the affair. I had one, they actually weren't bad, though I suspect they had more than "100" calories in them.

Predicted thunderstorms mostly missed us again, going north and south of us. Less than 1/8 inch of rain here. At least the temperature has dropped. Horses are back in their stalls tonight, which makes them feel more secure and routine even if it gets a bit stuffy at times.

I just might get to sleep early tonight. Maybe.

As I understand it, if a cookie has the number 100 on it, there is 100 calories in it. If there is no number on it, they have no calories.

Go for the cookie with 100 then.

Mmmm, cookies. ^^ If I'd been there, I'd have made sure there wouldn't have been any remaining! :)

Who was celebrating their 100th birthday?

Actually, if there's no number then there's little tiny print that you can't read. It says "Warning: this item may contain calories."

There are so many left that you'd have been really sorry if you ate them all.

The library. First opened its doors to the public on August 9, 1909. They were 92 years in the original building, then raised money for a new modern building and sold the old one to a church.

I recall you saying at some point in a past post now that I think about it. I hope all involved had a good time. If you have any cookies left that need getting rid of I will by glad to send you my postal address. ;)

Drink a diet coke with them. Then they don't count. EVERYONE knows this to be a fact. :D

I would send you some but with the weather we've had both here and there of late, they would be quite disgusting by the time they reached you.

Actually, what I always heard was "anything you eat while standing up has no calories."

True I suppose. Oh well.

Probably, but knowing myself, that wouldn't have kept me from trying. *s* How many are there left?

About a hundred of them, each 8 cm in diameter and 1 cm thick, with the top covered completely in sugary icing.

MMMMMmm. *whimpers* Oh, goodness, I think I'm starting to get an idea of how Tantalus must've felt.

If it makes you feel better, the volunteers seem to have taken quite a few home. But there are still 30 or 40 here this morning.

I'm pretty sure I'd manage those in a surprisingly short time if I were only there. ^.^
