Saturday...
Jul. 28th, 2007 08:53 pm...started off looking gloomy and threatening, but by afternoon was clearing up with a blue sky and puffy little clouds that finally seguéd into a lovely sunset a few minutes ago. Gary's been off at a Civil War event and then another music thing this evening so I've had the day to myself, other than the usual barn chores and the week's grocery shopping. A little reading, some spinning, gonna do more of both yet tonight. No problems except Gary's favorite cat is outdoors and doesn't want to come in. Not that I blame him, it's nice out there and he has so much fur the mosquitos won't bother him either.
I'm amazed at how quickly I seem to have caught onto the basic spinning process with the charkha. I had played with one a couple of times before, but not with any practical result. Today, however, I filled an entire spindle with cotton not much coarser than sewing thread. It's amazing how fast it can go once you get the feel for it. I'd like to see a real Indian using one, someone who has done it for years and years. I'll bet they are really fast.
Gotta go spin some more weft so I can finish up the weaving and get it off the loom.
