So, in the end I made a salad with pasta in it and a dressing of mayonnaise with chipotle taco seasoning to take to the pot luck. Most of it got eaten, so I guess it was a success. Turnout was low, probably in part due to the weather.

It's snowing again at the moment, An hour ago it was sleet, and the forecast calls for an inch of accumulation. Freezing rain is predicted for areas south and east of us. Nice.

Supper was butternut squash soup with curry and a dab of sour cream (made by Gary) and boneless chicken breast and mashed potatoes made by me. Woodstove is going and I'm still feeling chilly, even wedged here between two computers that are running SETI@Home full time and making a fair amount of heat.

Found a tiny platy still alive in the big community tank were we thought they had all been eaten nearly a month ago.

We just eat properly, or try to. No boxes full of synthesized chemicals, thanks.

Oh, you're wrong. The soup was the best thing. We make soup out of pumpkins and winter squashes quite often.

You cook them in chicken or veggie broth until they are soft, and then moosh up most of it so it becomes a fairly thick soup like a cream soup, but still with some chunks of cooked squash in it. Good things to add are tomatoes (I prefer Rotel for this, they add a little spice) or cooked black or red beans. Sweet peppers or carrots go well too. Season with curry powder or if you don't like curry, try chili powder or just some cumin, salt, and pepper. Sprinkle with cilantro leaves at serving time.

Some people add a little wine. I like a spoonful of sour cream. Gary takes his straight. ;p

The salad was nothing that special. Just mixed greens with tomatoes and sweet onions chopped up, cooked bow tie pastas and the dressing, which is essentially ranch with some Mexican seasoning added.

Adds that to the "Cook This" file.

*eventually he gets around to cooking this*

*looks at wife and its a dark and stormy
night*

"Taste this..."

*she takes the spoon*

"Your not just trying to get my life
insurance money are you?"

*he laughs*

"Yes, eat it"

*she sips*

They forever are enthralled by Gary's soup.

=D

Heh. I read my mail in Gmail. It has those Google text type ads down one edge. The ones that come up from LJ comments are always quite distracting. This one got:

"Yellow Thai Coconut Curry"
"Maryland Blue Crab Express" (How did crabs get in?)
"Landi's Pork Store Online" (Ditto pigs?)
"Bitter Melon for Diabetes"
"All Natural Avocado Oil"
"Chicken Top 10 List" (a list of reasons NOT to eat chicken, oddly enough)
"Save Big on Groceries" (at Amazon.com?)
"Rustichella d'Abruzzo" (Italian ingredients)
"Chili Recipe"
"Apricot Recipe"
"Bruschetta Recipe"
"Class Recipe" (take one first grade class...??)
