You're Prufrock and Other Observations!

by T.S. Eliot

Though you are very short and often overshadowed, your voice is poetic
and lyrical. Dark and brooding, you see the world as a hopeless effort of people trying
to impress other people. Though you make reference to almost everything, you've really
heard enough about Michelangelo. You measure out your life with coffee spoons.

You're The Guns of August!

by Barbara Tuchman

Though you're interested in war, what you really want to know is what
causes war. You're out to expose imperialism, militarism, and nationalism for what they
really are. Nevertheless, you're always living in the past and have a hard time dealing
with what's going on today. You're also far more focused on Europe than anywhere else in
the world. A fitting motto for you might be "Guns do kill, but so can
diplomats."

You're Siddhartha!
by Hermann Hesse

You simply don't know what to believe, but you're willing to try anything once. Western values, Eastern values, hedonism and minimalism, you've spent some time in every camp. But you still don't have any idea what camp you belong in. This makes you an individualist of the highest order, but also really lonely. It's time to chill out under a tree. And realize that at least you believe in ferries.

I only like the last insight into my bookness:

You're The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe!

by C.S. Lewis

You were just looking for some decent clothes when everything changed
quite dramatically. For the better or for the worse, it is still hard to tell. Now it
seems like winter will never end and you feel cursed. Soon there will be an epic
struggle between two forces in your life and you are very concerned about a betrayal
that could turn the balance. If this makes it sound like you're re-enacting Christian
theological events, that may or may not be coincidence. When in doubt, put your trust
in zoo animals.

You're Alice's Adventures in Wonderland!

by Lewis Carroll

After stumbling down the wrong turn in life, you've had your mind
opened to a number of strange and curious things. As life grows curiouser and curiouser,
you have to ask yourself what's real and what's the picture of illusion. Little is coming
to your aid in discerning fantasy from fact, but the line between them is so blurry that
it's starting not to matter. Be careful around rabbit holes and those who smile to much,
and just avoid hat shops altogether.

Um... yipe!

According to that quiz, I am Lolita.

Considered by most to be depraved and immoral, you are obsessed with sex. What really tantalizes you is that which deviates from societal standards in every way, though you admit that this probably isn't the best and you're not sure what causes this desire. Nonetheless, you've done some pretty nefarious things in your life, and probably gotten caught for them. The names have been changed, but the problems are real. Please stay away from children.

Er... I don't think I'm that bad, and children will always be safe around me :/ I can be pretty kinky, though, and I am in a poly quad....

I think I'll just enjoy that grain of salt, thanks!

The other friend who got Lolita is surely no danger to children, and I hardly imagine you are either. After all, Lolita herself was the child character. It was her precocious sexuality that created the situations of the book, rather than the fixations of those older than she. At least, that was how I read it.

While I'm very fond of Lewis Carroll, I'm not sure I'd want to actually live in one of his dystopic worlds. ;p Interesting that you got that one, as my impression of you is much more practical and reality oriented than Wonderland.

Did you know that if you take the quiz twice, and answer the first question differently the second time, all the rest of the questions are different? Anyway, here's the results of the first time I took it:

You're Adventures of Huckleberry Finn!

by Mark Twain

With an affinity for floating down the river, you see things in black
and white. The world is strange and new to you and the more you learn about it, the less
it makes sense. You probably speak with an accent and others have a hard time
understanding you and an even harder time taking you seriously. Nevertheless, your
adventurous spirit is admirable. You really like straw hats.

In spite of the flippant comments about the book, I think several of Twain's novels, including this one, do fit you rather well. The straw hat is entirely optional and is merely a prop.

I did suspect that this quiz was the type that sent you down a path of different questions depending on each answer. I only tried it once because I was quite satisfied with T. S. Eliot.

A friend recommended Der Steppenwolf and was really enthusiastic about it, but I never got around to reading it. In fact, I haven't read a word of Hesse. My impression of him is that he basically likes to talk about western idenitity neuroses in Buddhist terms, but it's entirely second-hand. I should maybe go pick up something by him at some point.

Oh I dunno. Have you read it? It's got some pretty smexy parts. And that wonderful scene where Morgause is trying to become invisible by holding a cat bone in her teeth. The trouble is, she didn't know which bone would do it, so she boiled a whole cat and was trying the bones one by one in front of a mirror...

One of the more interesting depictions of Lancelot that I recall reading, and I studied the Arthurian thing extensively in grad school. It was originally going to be the basis of my master's thesis.

A much too busy weekend, I'm afraid. It's snowing outside again, this time unscheduled more or less. Tonight we're headed down to well below zero again, they say, to stay there until Monday. Then, more snow. And on Wednesday, I keep saying, the earthquake. I suppose if I say it too many times, it will actually happen?

Well, I suppose it could happen if you focused enough on it, but I don't think you have a lot to worry about where you live. Not that it couldn't happen - it would just be very odd (much odder than the weather you're experiencing). If you want I can put in a good word with Pele for you ;)

You're Ulysses!

by James Joyce

Most people are convinced that you don't make any sense, but compared
to what else you could say, what you're saying now makes tons of sense. What people do
understand about you is your vulgarity, which has convinced people that you are at once
brilliant and repugnant. Meanwhile you are content to wander around aimlessly, taking in
the sights and sounds of the city. What you see is vast, almost limitless, and brings you
additional fame. When no one is looking, you dream of being a Greek folk hero.
