So it feels, this weekend is so packed with obligatory stuff. It's not going to be very relaxing I fear.

Hot, muggy weather, but I still got some gardening done. Go me. Some of the stuff I have growing is bound to produce edibles, no matter what. I insist. ;p More blueberries ripe, but I didn't have time to pick today. Tomorrow maybe.

Plans for the library's centennial celebration (all next year) are starting to heat up. Some nifty ideas are definitely under consideration. I think we're going to collect little slips of paper from library patrons with the title of a book they think everyone ought to read, and the reason in 25 words or less. We'll put out a booklet with the top 100 suggested reads, and the reasons given.

I've looked up the list of the 10 best selling books in the US from 1909, and I think we'll be hunting up used early printings of them for a display. After they've been on display for a few weeks, we'll allow folks to check them out and read them if they like. At the end of the year, they'll go into our rare book room as trophies of a sort, with special bookplates.

Someone has suggested a party with a hundred cakes, instead of a cake with a hundred candles. I don't know how that would work, exactly, but the idea is on the table...

Tess was just as unwilling to go out of the barn today as yesterday, though it took me a little less time to convince her. She seemed happy enough once we got out the door. Weird.

And my copy of Dream-Carver by Erin Van Hiel arrived in the mail today, along with a package of treats and a new bridle for Tess (not all from the same source.) As [livejournal.com profile] rikoshi promised in his review, the book is of very high quality. It will be following me around until I finish it. I'm already hooked on the story. For one thing, one of the main characters is an equine, and a priestess confessor to boot. For another, the writing is as good as Kyell Gold's, but so far without the "erotica" which is fine by me. It promises to be quite a story.

The song is "Country Boy Can Survive" instead of "City Boy" for a reason.

(Today is Brain Weasel Stomping Day.)
