Or at least rumors of it as I watched others complaining on twitter and various blogs through the day. Seemed as though everyone was either having technological disasters or else trying to undo those disasters for someone else. Mercury is NOT retrograde, as it turns out, so there has to be some other explanation. Sunspots? A large and active new one appeared just a few days ago. maybe that's it. We've been without them for so long that we've forgotten what it feels like to have them around? ;p

My day was quiet on the tech front, actually. Everything that was likely to break already broke, I think. I'm in the lull while waiting for parts to arrive, at which time I'll have to repair the broken stuff.

I actually cleaned up a little in the weaving room today and we moved the big (55 inches wide) loom out from the wall so I can get a warp onto it. Or so Argos can, at least.

And at the end of a long day, as usual, my brain is mush so I don't have much more to report.

My recent technical problem was cured by uninstalling Vista.

I gather that a lot of things can be prevented by not installing Vista in the first place. ;p

Or using the Linux distro on my other partition. I really need to update that now that I remember.

Well, yeah, the Linux part goes without saying. Especially because if I say it people jump all over me for "hating" Windows.

"Moar Tech Fail"?

I never thought I would see you start adopting teh internets lingo, Tivo. Be careful. If you let that stuff into your brain, you might start forgetting what real English is! O_o Next thing you know, you'll be demanding the classics in LOLcat! Their already working on the Bible. Next it will be Shakespeare! And then the entire doom of the world when society is lost in the fires of a hell worse than the darkest corners of Dante's subconscious, where complete sentences have been replaced by fragmented clauses filled emotive acronyms and where even the shortest words are spelled with numbers! Oh God, the horror of it all!

Don't let your brain become mush. Don't give up. You must fight it. Fight the mushy I say!

And no, I'm not drunk or on anything in case you are wondering. XD

Heh. Not much risk of that really. But when you are speaking to a Frenchman, is it not best to speak French? Or Chinese in Beijing? So, when on the Intarwebs, might as well speak the lingo.

Don't worry, though. Argos and Fennec will not be dropping their very proper English or even losing the subjunctive. ;D

Oh right. Actually, I have not been so amused in a long time as I was on the day that I found this out: Microsoft's network of Windows Update servers runs at least partly on Linux. My network traffic monitors at the library identify the operating system at each end of a connection when possible, and it's quite clear that a fair percentage of microsoft.com traffic is handled by Linux.

I've been fixing more computers than usually, maybe it's the approaching Samhain... =)

Hmm. I hadn't considered Samhain gremlins as the cause, but I haven't particularly noticed such activity in the past. Maybe I wasn't paying attention?

I'd guess Microsoft is running out of Irish tech support staff, and they had to find some replacements...

But at least it's not in India. We'd have multiple critters haunting the machines for every day of the year. =)

Yes, and you wouldn't be allowed to disturb the ones that look like cows or vultures.
