Though we did have a couple of brief "white-outs" this afternoon, snow accumulation so far is not significant. They still say up to three inches overnight, but the radar is clear.

We skipped dog obedience, perhaps unnecessarily. But Gary's mom is here with us because he didn't want to risk her being stranded in her house in Chicago with 20 inches of snow and possibly no electricity. So instead she can be stranded here with 20 inches of snow and possibly no electricity, but she won't be by herself. So that's fine.

Still looking like an early close for work tomorrow, and probably closed all day Wednesday if the storm really hits. I don't imagine that will take the full 20 inches, but 10 or 12 would be sufficient. They say we could get thundersnow, which is always entertaining. And Lake Shore Drive in Chicago will be closed due to expected 25 foot waves washing inshore. Still, not really a match for the "surprise" blizzard of 1967 I suspect. It will certainly mess up Ground Hog Day in Woodstock, though. I don't think that Woodstock Willie can possibly see his shadow at this rate.

The lone duck has now been transplanted to the protected lambing pen as planned. Remains to be seen whether he'll snap out of his funk and eat now. I know geese sometimes pine away after losing their mates, but ducks are not monogamous for life the way geese are. On the other hoof, this guy is pretty darned old, so the panic and shock may turn out to have been too much for his little brain.

No new sign of the fox, but I think I know where she is. We're watching.
