It's a real shame that they're discarding collections without offering them to other institutions. You'd think either the director or the college's governing board would want to try making money off things like the NYT on microfilm back to 1851.
I heard of a college in the east doing this a couple of years ago. Haven't heard how that turned out, though. I'm sure there are others.
A liberal arts college that ditches all its print when not everything is replaceable online has some serious problems. Maybe the administrators are rebranding it as something that isn't a liberal arts college. Well, it's not as if there are no other colleges in northern Illinois. I assume they're not quite as seriously afflicted as this one.
