Enough already
Jul. 8th, 2011 08:54 pmThe summer reading farce is getting to me and it's only half over. I simply do not believe that all this candy and circuses does that much to convince kids to grow up into readers.
It does, however, frazzle the overworked library staff until they growl like bears and snap like alligators. It reduces the orderly arrangement of 40,000 books to chaos. And it creates conditions that drive adult users out of the library in despair. The noise and hyperactive behaviors are inescapable.
Thank the goddess it's the weekend. I wish this one were three days long as well.
