Tired of waiting
Oct. 12th, 2011 09:44 pmStill no delivery of the promised rain. Most of the leaves are off the trees now but not from rain, just wind. This afternoon I observed goofy neighbors to the west side. He was making a lot of noise with one of those stupid leaf blower things, but not achieving much beyond making an earsplitting racket. She was running around trying to tell him what to do. Of course there was so much wind that even if he cleared part of their 1/8 mile paved driveway, the wind filled it with leaves again as soon as he turned his back. He kept asking "How's that?" She kept yelling "No, you missed some." I quit watching and went to work.
County health department was at the library this afternoon giving (selling actually) flu shots. I did not partake.
Evening began with a flurry of odd activity but died out by 7 pm. Except for one odd character who was using a laptop computer and had used a California driver's license as ID to borrow an ethernet cable (we don't have wi-fi, yay) who kept walking around talking to himself. I snooped on the net and found that his laptop was busy uploading something large to a server with a 1e100.com (Google-owned) address, but I have no idea what it might have been.
Gary was mulching leaves with the mower yesterday and startled a huge raccoon that ran out from under the corner of the arena. I missed it, pooh. He said it was as big as a 5 gallon bucket, which must mean it was in the 30 pound range or so.
And the free duck he got from a Freecycle listing on the web has started laying eggs. Today was her fifth day in a row. I used a couple in some apple muffins and they were grade AA perfect.
So far the threatened rain has only amounted to a light spray that lasted about 5 minutes or so. They keep threatening us with thunderstorms tonight, but I'm not holding my breath.
