Wah! My baby's growing up...
Mar. 19th, 2005 07:00 amMy little (not so little any more) filly who was born here June 1, 2003 is getting big. Yesterday she went off to "boarding school" for her first training. I can do very basic things, but I don't have the time or experience to start a horse on my own. I had discussed this with some friends and we had agreed that they would help, but still it seemed so sudden. John came with his trailer yesterday afternoon while I was at work and took her to his place. Here's a photo of Dawn from last summer. She's officially a two year old now, so it's time for her education to begin.
John called me last night to say she was doing great. He put her in a stall in his barn and later went out and walked her around to introduce her to the other horses. She was curious, friendly, and unafraid. He said she behaved very well in the trailer and then while being exposed to all the new things. Today she'll be put out in a pasture with strangers! She needs to socialize with other horses, so this is good. But I miss her.
Dawn's mom, Tess, made a fuss when they took her out of the barn, but was quiet and peaceful by the time I got home. This will be good for her too, now I can focus my attention on her for a while without the extra distraction. Time to go riding!
