Nah. You have aptitudes that I know I can't touch. Mechanical, for one thing. A 15 question quiz is hardly more than a rough predictor. I seem to recall that all IQ tests really are just tests of how well you take tests.
No, I think that's the SAT you're thinking of. Most proper IQ tests (not the online quizzes!) are actually a decent test of general intelligence, so far as that can be defined.
I'm not convinced. I have actually scored as high as 170 on supposedly standard IQ tests. That seems absurdly high. And yes, I "test" well. Always have, whether it's the SAT or someone's midterm.
That's more or less the result I'd have expected. It would be interesting to try that with a serious IQ test and see what the results were.
This thing can't be a valid measurement of IQ, even within some sloppy range, because it doesn't ask your age. By definition, IQ requires a comparison of mental abilities and skills to physical age. As a result, most of us show scores that gradually decrease as we grow older.
I've taken a real IQ test, actually, and you really couldn't apply the same technique, because a lot of it is based on "performance" tests (i.e. "listen to these numbers and repeat them back in reverse order", "reorder these pictures to make them tell a story", etc). Multiple-choice just doesn't cut it.
Some are like that, some are not. And, of course, they get different results with the same individual. In the 50s and 60s, IQ tests frequently used by educational institutions were entirely written and consisted either of multiple choice or follow the instructions type questions. Obviously, those were slanted toward verbal ability and weak on spatial recognition, or other right brain abilities such as aural discrimination. Testees who had high verbal abilities scored higher than those who were not fluent in the language, for instance. Every IQ test has weaknesses and emphases. I remember questions that had to do with colors, that a person with color blindness would have perhaps failed, though it would be no indication of their intelligence or lack of same.
You can draw better than I can, too. A valid IQ test measures spacial perceptions and other right brain abilities as well as verbal and math.
As for physical advantages, it's obvious from your posts that you have some over me. But no, I wouldn't trade either. A sign of mental health is the realization that we wouldn't want to give up our identity (who we are) for some attribute that we feel we lack. :)
