Oh yeah. Gotta love that write-once-read-many, non-volitile, random access storage medium! Can withstand a decent amount of abuse (far more than an equivalently sized hard drive can withstand), and even be destroyed (torn) without loss of data (as long as all the parts are recovered). All in all, this WORM technology has been overlooked for too long....

BTW: Current WORM I'm reading - 1944 edition of Mark Twain's "Life on the Mississippi." The book's smell is wonderful. ^.^

Oh yeah. Smell and texture and the tactile feelings of a nice book can't be matched by anything. Here I've been meaning for a while to post a favorable review of the eBookwise reader I got last winter, and it is a nifty gadget, but it still doesn't beat the heft and feel of a real book.

Ever since I was a little kid I've been addicted to the smell of libraries. New ones usually don't have it, but an old library that has been full of books for a century or so is as fine as a high priced wine. It's not musty or moldy, as some folks think. There's a hint of dust, but it's paper, leather, fabric, glue, and printers ink, with a little wax thrown into the mix and it just drives me wild. :)

Got any recommendations on zippered book covers? I'd like to read this book on my commute to/from work, but not without giving it some armour, first.

Gosh, I haven't had one of those in an awful long time. I do remember seeing some in a Levenger catalog not too long ago. Leather and pricy, of course, but I suspect you appreciate fine leather. Might be worth a look at their website, http://www.levenger.com/ (don't forget to check the sales and discontinued items.)

I've been on their mailing list forever, but only because I occasionally indulge myself with a fountain pen. Not only do I read actual books, but I write with ink from a bottle. :)
