America: You don't love it or want to leave it. But you wouldn't mind giving it an extreme make over. On the 4th of July, you'll fly a freak flag instead... And give Uncle Sam a sucker punch! |

Date: 2005-07-05 08:38 am (UTC)As early as age 18 I declared my desire to be a Canadian rather than a US citizen. As it turns out, that's easier said than done. By the time one acquires the economic resources necessary, they aren't too eager to accept you because you're not young any more.

A few of the people around here were still conspicuously waving Canadian flags, eg: attached to their cars, on July 4th (probably just to make a point). :-)

Date: 2005-07-05 01:05 pm (UTC)For several years I looked for a Canadian flag. I wanted a good sized one, like 6 x 8 feet, in real fabric rather than nylon. My intent, however, was probably naughty. I wanted it for a bedspread. Never found one in any case. They were all made of stiff, unpleasant nylon type fabrics.
Re: Freak flag
Date: 2005-07-05 01:10 pm (UTC)At about the same time, though, we used to refer to tie-dyed sheets in the size and shape of a flag, displayed as if they were flags, as "freak flags." Both would be suggestions of a 60s-70s hippie element, which seems a little odd in an online quiz at this late date. (Unless the quiz author is a lot older than the usual 19-21 year olds who make these things up.)
