Hey, we scored almost identically... and I can't believe I would outdo anyone on 'bravery'! :D

Heh. And I couldn't figure out what things in those questions would relate to "bravery". Foolhardiness, perhaps. Like the one about taking on Voldemort yourself, running away, or gathering an army. I chose "gather an army". I would equate joining him or running away with cowardice (negative bravery points) but attacking him by yourself would just be stupid wouldn't it?

So, are you the keeper of the key? And can you be bribed? ;-)

I have access, yes. But I'm trying not to be bribable. (Is that a word?)

I will say this: it isn't quite as long as the fifth one was. We suspect that means she got some expert editing help, or at least we hope it does.

Everything I heard about #5 indicated that a shorter #6 is A Good Thing.

I haven't read even volume 1 yet, so you're safe from me. But my boss is a major HP fan, so if she finds out that I know someone who has a copy, even if it's under lock and key.... (Well she's a sensible person, so no worries there, either.)

Your library probably has several copies, right? They'll fly off the shelves Saturday morning, I'm sure.

We have received three so far. I believe there should be three more before Saturday, as well as one each of the audiobook version on CD and cassette.

The system had 126 names on the request list as of yesterday afternoon, so yes, none of them will be sitting around for long. We give preference to our own local users on the first checkout, but after that the books may go to any of the dozen libraries in the system. I'm number 48 on the list, but number one on the list for the CD copy. Unfair advantage. I was the one who ordered it and placed the record into the system, and I immediately added myself to the hold queue.

Now, as for your boss... What's it worth to her? [sly grin]

I imagine that overall, the system will have at least 40 or 50 copies of this book, so the people currently in line won't be waiting long. Those who don't put themselves on the list *before* the actual release though, may have a bit of a wait. The waiting list for the previous HP book reached more than 200 names at one point. Only one other title has rivaled that and stayed in demand for as long: Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code.

Have you ever been to http://www.jkrowling.com ?

From tid-bits she put there, and bit and pieces I've seen in the various "bonus materials" from DVDs I'd say that the fifth book tested her writing talents on keeping so many subplots strung along. Also the sixth book has a good bit of story that was some of the first she envisioned.

I can only imagine what she must be feeling right now, knowing that a good portion of the free world is waiting on baited breath and the tips of their hooves for the book to release so they can sink their literary teeth into it.

I intend to graze away all weekend.

Heh, no, I haven't looked at that. I'm a little tired of Rowling's posturing, actually. She has made millions, and yet she and her lawyers are busy making things difficult for people. I *will* read the book, though.

Since there's at least one more volume planned, I doubt Harry dies in this one. I've been speculating for a couple of years though that either he dies or loses all his magical powers at the very end.

To lose all his powers at the end would really be pulling a DragonLance on the readers. They've done that what, at least three times now just that I can remember. A typical trade-off, though - Harry sacrificing his powers to bind Voldemort's. Very likely, very cliche.

Yes, that's how I feel about it too. But she's been foreshadowing it ever since the first book. The two wands made from the same phoenix feather, the way Harry and Voldemort always end up in a standoff... It's a classic setup.

Worse outcome, though less likely: both find out that they are parts of the same individual and must merge in order to become "whole". Now that would really be gross. Sort of like the cop-out at the end of The Dark Crystal when the Skexes and Mystics re-combined to form whatever it was they became and then said "have a nice life" and disappeared.

Wait, I know. Voldemort turns out to really be a Dursley. Thus a mud-blood and just imagine the implications for Harry's muggle relations...
