altivo: Blinking Altivo (altivo blink)
[personal profile] altivo
If you've never done it, you should try doing a Google search for your real name. Put it in quotes, include your middle initial if you use it that way. I'm always amazed. Of course, since I have a fairly common name, some things show up that aren't really me, but many of them are. Included are archived e-mails from as far back as the early 1990s, which is kinda scary when you think about it, and a couple of usenet postings from the same period. Nothing you do on the net is guaranteed private, or guaranteed to be forgotten.

Anyway, the idea of searching my LJ/Furry name had never occurred to me. "Altivo" is a not too rare name for a male horse in the Spanish language, so I'm not surprised that there are hits. I'm also aware that it is a brand name used for wrist watches, and the name of a restaurant somewhere. But other things pop up as well...

Directions: Type "(your name) is" with the quotes into a Google search, then pick out your favorite 10 responses. Copy, then repost your responses:
  • Altivo is one of Singapore's best kept secrets. (pricy bar and restaurant)
  • Altivo will probably mature to 16hh and will have lots of hair. Altivo is registered with IALHA and has been Inscribed into the Spanish Studbook.
  • Altivo is pulled in a boat behind.
  • Altivo is extorbitant. [sic]
  • Altivo is always rolling his eyes at something his human companions do.
  • Altivo is really a playful, friendly stallion.
  • Altivo is much nicer at night.
  • Altivo is just getting more and more boring.
  • Altivo is not a member of any public groups.
  • Altivo is mild and friendly. (That came from my own page, which I thought wasn't indexed. Bleh.)

Try it, you may find something interesting.

Your search - "drelonek is" - did not match any documents.

Also, searching for my full name, middle initial or not, turns up nothing.

You must have an unusual name. There's your chance to make a unique mark on the Internet, then. Time to put up some web pages. :)

Ah, but I just tried "Drel is" and got loads of stuff:

Drel is a formal language for expressing conditions and terms...
Drel is a qualified Russian barrister and solicitor...
Drel is a dragonrider and proud of it... (!)
Drel is now becoming a wolfbrother...
Drel is out of round...
Drel is on a distinguished road...

And so forth and so on. ;)

"extorbitant" ... that's when you're trying to con an excessive amount of money out of someone? :-)

Hmm, I hadn't considered that meaning. This one was in reference to that bar/restaurant in Singapore, which apparently is very expensive and is located on top of a mountain next to the ski lift or cable car station, so it may be the only option available--hence extortion at an exhorbitant rate. Brilliant.

Actually I already do this once in awhile just for kicks 'n giggles.

My RL name turns up as a fantasy football player and a church minister in Texas, as well as some geneology references. Its interesting to note that during my flubbed enlistment with the U.S. Navy, there was a guy who also trained who had the same first, middle initial and last name as myself with the singular exception of the leading vowel of the last name, which when pronounced sounds very similar to mine. I never met him ... so how did I know about him? I kept getting his mail. Presumably, he kept getting mine. What's especially ludicrous is your service number is your social security number -- and ours were clearly different. I'd think with a lot of names a lot more common than mine, they'd go by that # ... but they didn't. The mail I did get correctly addressed to me, by the way, was generally over a month late. :/

I learned what NAVY stands for, at least:
N ever
A gain
V olunteer
Y ourself

Erasing yourself? Ouch, doesn't that hurt?

OK, but try it with just Brun:

Brun is a painter of singular power...
Brun is a man with a dilemma of his own...
Brun is the hugest loser ever...
Brun is one of SF's best politicians...
Brun is arrested and briefly imprisoned...
Brun is a luxury hotel located...
Brun is our newest staff member...

and so forth... XD

I know it's going to be annoying to use my chosen name in such a search... because there are just soo many astronomy references out there. it will be a flood!

I've searched for my given name before, but never with the complete/middle initial included. ...I ought to try it, just for my own amusement. My first and middle names are very common, but Moreau (my last name) is not quite as much, yay.
