How's your fursuit work coming along? I'm curious, as I've been working on my own things for a while. Just wanting to know more, if there is more. I don't know if you just started or not. :)
The short answer is that it will be wearable by my deadline, which is MFF next weekend. I've read your notes about footwear, btw. But I'm not going for that kind of realism. For one thing, I'm convinced I'd break an ankle or worse, and having had a broken ankle before, once is enough for that. ;)
The hard part is pretty much done, headpiece is finished except for some minor details. I'll post a photo or two later today. Think plush toy, not the amazing stage realism that Cordite does. 'Tivo the pony clown, that's me.
I don't care for the common technique of carving the head out of plastic or rubber foam and covering it with plush. Instead, I built a model of a horse's skull out of plastic embroidery canvas, laid on pads of fiberfill where the soft spots are, and then added the plush fur skin. An ordinary baseball cap turned backward lies at the heart of it, hot glue and linen cord holds it together. As a result, it's much lighter and more realistic, I think. But the other benefit I'd hoped for, that it wouldn't be as hot to wear, didn't pan out. It's still hot, even though it's full of air and the nostrils and mouth are open.
