More snow!

Snowing again. They've cut the predicted accumulation back to 1 to 3 inches by 10 pm. But we've already had an inch and it's not even 10 am....

Gotta go to work today because otherwise someone gets stuck covering my late shift, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone, especially on short notice. I'm kinda hoping for a goshgolly of a snow right around dusk, which should cut traffic in the library to almost zero.

Presents! I generally try to dodge birthday stuff, but my mate always makes a thing of it. He got me a horsey desk calendar with a different horse photo for each day of the year, three knitting books with nice color photos and ideas, and "Ham Radio for Dummies". The last not because he thought I needed it, but because he thought it was funny. Actually, it may have some stuff I'm not up to date with. I've never done satellites, for instance. And though I've been very active on digital modes, those are developing way too fast to keep track of. You'd think being a librarian that I'd have had enough of books, but no, I never have too many of them. ;)

And I have tomorrow afternoon off work so unless the snow gets really bad, we're gonna go see Narnia. Yay!

Well, no, not really. :)

If it were my decision, we would just close the library during weather advisories like this, and make that an official policy. Unfortunately, our policy instead is that we will close if the public schools close. Well, when the storm hits after school is out, that doesn't really work.

I may have the option of closing up early if there is no one here. But usually if the lights are on and the doors open, there will be one or two people here right until closing time. (8 pm)

Hee. I can tell who that was.

So you'd make me drive home over freezing rain and country roads? ;D

Thanks, but not necessary. I got home all right, but the trip was indeed nasty. Freezing rain had been followed by a half inch of snow, followed by more freezing rain and sleet. Roads looked only wet, but a lot of it was black ice or a thin coating of slippery slush, and of course drivers were not behaving sensibly. When visibility becomes really poor, they will slow down, but they seem to have no sense at all of the quality of traction or necessary stopping distances.

You're a Clydesdale, 'too fat' doesn't exist.

I'm a bit of a leatherworker. I could certainly lengthen straps for you, and move buckles.

Now, if the saddle sits on your back like a bent paperclip resting on a canteloupe there's nothing I can do :)

Light and laughter,

Well, actually, I've pulled my belt in a notch in the last couple of months, so I'm doing OK. It should go farther, but if I just don't lose ground during the yule season I'll be doing well.

Not that I'd refuse a favor from you, since then I could owe you something and you could "collect" it. >;)

Thanks. :) But we know each other well enough to omit the honorifics.

The dire snow prediction turned into a half inch of freezing slush instead. Not nice for driving on at all. :/

Freezing slush - yuck.

We had a spell of freezing drizzle overnight that was wholly unpredicted. Now it's settled down to just constant snow. Latest predictions look like it'll hit the 5-8 inches they were talking about yesterday.

There's fog here now. Visibility is about 500 feet from the library windows. The weather is definitely getting more bizarre every year.

Ack. Ya know, I've never ever bought a single lottery ticket. There are many reasons, but the primary ones are two: the odds are so poor that I believe I'd do better putting the price of weekly tickets into a piggy bank, and if I actually won I'd feel so obligated to give all the money away to worthy causes and have so much trouble deciding who was worthy enough that I'd probably die of stress.

Sure, there are a lot of things I'd like to have that money could just buy. But I'd feel too guilty getting it that way. Most of that money comes from people who really can't afford to buy those tickets. Sure, they decide to do so of their own free will, but it doesn't justify my taking their money.

I forgot to thank you for the thought, though. Thanks. :)

I did get taken to lunch and to see the Narnia film. Separate post on that in a few minutes.
