1. What is the oldest object in the room with you?

After considerable thought (my home study is very cluttered) I conclude that it has to be one of the three Roman coins that are sitting in a desk drawer. All are so worn and corroded that they are difficult to identify or date, but I am assured that they are certainly of Roman Empire origin, having been found in a buried cache in Britain. They are probably 1500+ years old, which is the reason I bought them. (Only $20 and postage off eBay, such a steal...)

2. What is the newest?

Archeologically speaking that would have to be something in an upper layer, right? ;) Depending on how you measure "newness"... but most likely one of the books that just arrived from Amazon and are intended as gifts for my mate.

3. What is your favorite object in the room with you?

Now that's a really tough question. Nearly everything that is in this room is here because it has found some sort of favor with me. Art work by Chris Sawyer or Kaijima Frostfang? The plush toy pegasus? Not the computer, it's just a tool. The best answer I can give right now is my tail, which is hanging on the closet door on a peg. But it's a close tie with the bookcases and credenza that my mate built especially for me quite a few years ago.

4. What is the most valuable object?

Depends on who determines value and how you measure it. The single most expensive object is my 8-shaft floor loom. But if the house were burning and I could only grab one or two things and run it would probably be my mother's photo album with snapshots dating back to her childhood, and backup CD-Rs containing other valuable files and images.

5. What is the ugliest object?

Other than the clutter of papers and magazines? I'd say the wallpaper, which was here when we bought the house seven years ago. Rather than paint it over or strip it and repaper or paint, I wanted the bookshelves and desk in place immediately. So the walls are mostly covered by framed art and bookshelves, but plenty of the beige-with-brown-and-black-ant-tracks paper is still visible.
