Hurriedly

Gary gone all day to a Civil War event, but on his way home now with Bear Creek partner Rob. The radar just west of where they have been is lit up like hell fire, and we are under a storm watch here. I can hear thunder already.

Power could go out at any time, so I'm hurrying to fix something to eat. Hatches mostly battened down already.

Here's hoping you and yours are all safe and sound. While I love watching a good lightning storm from a safe vantage point, being in the midst of one isn't always as much fun.

I don't really mind being in the lighting and thunder, or even having the power go out for a while. High winds, though, when you live in a grove of hundred year old trees, are definitely worrisome.

As it happens, we got next to nothing but a few spatters of rain here, but they drove back just ahead of quite a storm front for a while.

I hope your storms weren't too bad. We had a good thunderstorm here yesterday, but nothing as extreme as the kinds of storms you get...

As often seems to happen here, the storm front split and went north and south of us, leaving us in a fairly quiet zone. I'm not sure why that happens, but it does. One Chicago weather forecaster attributes it to the height of the glacial moraines just west of us, though that doesn't seem so significant to me. It's just over 300 meters above sea level in most places, while the surrounding terrain averages about 30-40 meters lower.

As much as I love a good storm, this one sounds pretty bad even by your standards. Give a shout when it's all over to let us know the house is still standing.

All's well and in fact we had no storms here at home. They were chased down the highway from the west by a high wind and a lot of lightning, but the storm turned south before they got here.
