Guild newsletter completed for another month.

Actually there was some decent material to include. The nuisance is sending the e-mail notifications out to members, telling them to look at the newsletter online. It's amazing how often people change their e-mail addresses without notifying their regular correspondents. I always get half a dozen bounces out of a list of 50 or so names.

What is it that makes people so lax about this? They wouldn't think of changing their residence address without notifying their magazine subscriptions and such. Of course, I've used the same e-mail address for nearly 12 years now, but many people seem to change them like they change their underwear.

I have a couple email addresses that have remained constant since dial up :)

My tighties get changed daily (When I wear them), otherwise, nevermind :)

Heh. I'm still on dialup. That's all there is here.

The provider I dial isn't always the one who owns my e-mail server, though.

Yikes! Dial Up? There must be a Satelite company in your area that provides broadband somehwere!

Satellite and wireless exist in the area, but because my house is in a slight depression and surrounded by beautiful tall oak trees, they don't work here. I'd have to either put up a 75 foot tower or cut down two or three trees. I don't consider broadband to be worth either of those options.

Here's why:

That's a view looking toward the north from the house. Other photos here.

An ISP would have to be fracking spectacular to earn my loyalty.

That's why I use Yahoo and Gmail for my regular e-mail stuff instead of my ISP.

But many of these addresses that don't stay stable for even 6 months at a time ARE yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc.

I have noticed that people online change their email addresses, user names, ID's and even characters without really telling anyone. Sometimes I loose contact with people for months and find out later that it was just that they changed something and never got around to telling me at first and then lost my information. I have changed some of my email addresses a couple of times but I have settled on a couple that I have been using now for a looong time! I wonder how many people actually physically move and never really report it properly. I guess thats why everyone gets calls and letters from agencies and what not for other people that used to live there.

I'm afraid in many of the cases that I have to deal with, it's either that they decide the only way to stop the spam is by stopping the address and getting a new one, or... they forgot their password and don't know what to do about it.

I had one case where the explanation was "We got a new computer and of course the old e-mail address belonged to the old computer so we had to get a new one." Gack.
