Yeah, there's rarely enough compensation from that, considering all the messing up the daily routines, exhaustion from the extra work, and trying to juggle all the other things at the same time while trying keep the day together... sometimes this modern money-driven society seems a little strange to me.
Yeah, only sometimes, because I try to keep it all out of my head. =)
Usually it just seems out of balance though, human values and material values clashing badly together. Maybe I could buy some better values for myself somewhere. *grins*
Well this one had less to do with money (especially since we are a public service agency and not a profit-making venture) than it did with sloppy management. We've had a series of failures in the scheduling area. People schedule time off several weeks in advance, and yet somehow nothing gets done about covering the essential hours until the last minute.
With a couple of days' warning, I would have simply gone in to work at noon instead of 8 am, and stayed until 8 pm instead of 5 pm. But they didn't realize they had a "crisis" until noon. This is just bad planning, and happened because the substitute who was originally supposed to cover the shift was also misinformed and came in last week instead of this. By then she had scheduled something else for this week and couldn't do it yesterday. I get no overtime. My compensation for staying through is that I don't have to work my own usual shift to 8 pm today. Instead I'll be doing just 12:30 to 5 pm.
I personally hate working late hours. I'd prefer to start at 6 am and be done in mid afternoon, but that isn't an option here. One day a week working the evening is about the most I can stand.
Yeah, seen plenty of that bad planning too, that's usually when they call me and try to coax me to work... *grins*
It's not that bad though, considering I'm usually always low on money, and that's where I get more. Just sometimes I wonder if it's really worth, having to handle the stress in trying to do seven hours of work in four... but at least they pay for the bigger number. =)
You are much more highly paid than I am, though. This situation shouldn't have happened. It was the result of poor planning and compounded errors in scheduling.
