Here he is, three days old. Born on March 10, he is Jetta's third offspring. 13 MAR 2006

Jetta (4 year old Southdown/Finn/Corriedale mix) and her new lamb, Bah-Bah-Lou. 13 MAR 2006
Killer Sheep?
Sheep don't get red-eye from the flash. Their eyes turn blue. They do seem to share that cervine tendency to freeze and stare, though. 13 MAR 2006

Believe it or not, when Jetta was born she was as black as her lamb is today. Our other black sheep have stayed black, but she changed to gray last year and now seems to be turning white. 13 MAR 2006
I don't know, I was pretty hungry that day.... But he was safe regardless, because I don't know how to make curry. I only know how to get it -- go to a good Indian restaurant and order off the menu.
No worries. Our sheep are for wool and pets. I don't even like lamb to eat, and I never agree to eat anything I've been properly introduced to by name.
There is a field just down the road from us where once every year you see a whole bunch of big fat sheep, and a few days later you see much skinnier sheep and little baby ones all of the place ^^. They usually stay in the fields that are further back on that land, but the owner, i guess he's a bit of a show off, brings them to the roadside ones near the birthing. I'm assuming because it's nearer the larger barn though really.
Yes probably. Like in the bible, shepherds like to watch over the sheep at lambing time. I've been told that sheep often need help with birthing, but we've never had a problem (knock on wood or something.) We go to bed unsuspecting and in the morning there's a new lamb or two in the barn.
My late ex-boss at Columbia was a sheep farmer's daughter, and told of having to help out with difficult births as a child because her hand and arm were smaller. Since our sheep are miniature size to begin with, that could indeed be an issue. I don't think either of us could get a hand into the crucial spaces. ;P
I'm pretty confident that Louie here is the only lamb coming this year. We have only two ewes in the flock now, and the other is five years old and ornery. Bigger than the ram and I think she doesn't let him mate her. She had twin lambs the first year we had her, and nothing since.
That's fine, because I only wanted a small flock for the wool. Too many lambs and you have to DO something with them, which usually means lamb chops. I'd have a hard time doing that and Gary absolutely wouldn't.
Yeah, I could never farm animals for meat consumption... I'd have a very hard time killing or having something killed that I put love and energy into raising...
