Well worth the wait too. Thanks, Jim Groat, for a great capture of the fursona.

Yep. Jim is talented at that sort of thing. I've admired so many of his badges for other folk that I finally broke down and ordered my own. He doesn't really know me, yet he got it right just from a printed description and a couple of comments from me. :)

Fortunately, I'm not likely to show up in West Corner of the Park since I'm not that well-known.

Very nice. Does this mena you're going to have dreadlocks and an earing when I see you again this November?

I've always had the earring, or at least for the last 30 years or so. The one I wear IRL is small enough you might easily miss it.

Dreads no. Braids I've done in the past, but it's a lot of fuss and I think I'll just stick to the ones on my fursuit. They don't need redoing every day or two.

Oo, a 'tivo fursuit? I'm not sure I've seen you "in the fur".

And Jim Groat's secretly a poetically sensitive sort? Who'da thunk it? =:)

Heh. I didn't notice anyone saying that Groat was sensitive or poetic, but he is a darned good artist with a sharp eye for the things that set individuals apart from each other.

The fursuit is a work in progress, but there are photos of its first appearance at MFF last autumn. Here's one of several by [livejournal.com profile] kryphos (scroll forward or back from there for more.) And here's another one by [livejournal.com profile] frysco; and several more by [livejournal.com profile] vakkotaur starting here.

As soon as I figure out what I look like, I will commision him. Then I will have "arrived." Wonderful badge.

*laughs and hands you a mirror*

I think that, like myself, you'd look great showing the signs of your occupation and hobby. Engineer's cap and striped bib overalls maybe? I think a wolf would look great in those. Or maybe a spiffy conductor's uniform?

Actually, the GSD in your user pics is a fine reference. We all recognize him. I'd just suggest "graying" him a bit so he's not so brown. Unless, of course, you're a Mexican red wolf or something. Certainly the wolves of our midwestern territory here are usually more gray. And I think it lends dignity too. ;)

Oh, the mirror. I remember that. I think we were down that path before. I can "redefine" the appearance of my icon. It would probably work. I will see Groat at Morphicon.

Well, judging from what i've seen of you irl, that's actually a pretty decent furry representation. :D
You should wear it to work, or something.

A very relaxed looking posture. The shires that I met at Staintondale were a bit like that. Perhaps I need to take a leaf out of their book and stop worrying aobut things beyond my control.

It's a horse talent, knowing the difference between what you can change and what you can't. But cold-bloods like Shires and Clydes are better at it. The Thoroughbreds and such can't stand still long enough to think about it. ;p

Very nice, lovely pony! I've always liked Jim's stuff, and in fact recently picked up a rather amusing picture of Red Shetland draped over that barbarian horse guy's lap (can't remember his name) apparently about to get a spanking - though her look matches the title: "Go ahead. Make my day." He looks unsure himself :)

I can't quite read the title on the book. What is it?

Yay furry art! You should see the commission I just had done of my sweetie and I - I'll post it as soon as I can figure out a good place to have it hosted.

Light and laughter,
SongCoyote

Click on the image to enlarge and you can probably read the book cover. It's Hemingway's For Whom the Bell Tolls. (Not my particular choice, the artist selected the title, so I don't know that it has any special meaning.)

Jim does a fantastic job of caricature when he's representing us furries. In every case where he has drawn someone I know, the image is distinctively recognizable. That's impressive. :)

Hmm... perhaps he found it particularly interesting due to some tidbit in the descriptions you gave him. Oh well - it's still cool :)

Jim has been a staunch furry supporter for a long time, and in the few interactions I've had with him, pretty nice, if occasionally gruff. I first met him at ConFurence 0 in San Diego.

You make me want to get a badge or caricature from him!

Light and laughter,
SongCoyote

That kind of expression is one you frequently see in Groat's work. If you follow his comic strips, you will recognize it right away.
