Is it 40 days and 40 nights yet? It sure feels like it. The long term forecast has either "chance of thunderstorms" or "thunderstorms likely" for every day and night in the next week, too.
No Clinton parade for us (nor, I suspect, for many others if there was a parade at all.) Both they and we were on flood warnings all day, and it continued to rain on and off, sometimes quite heavily. I broke down and went to WalMart, where I bought a new pair of "Brown dairy boots, size 11" to replace the ones that sprang a huge leak at the end of the winter. Consequently, I got to do chores with dry feet for the first time in many days.
Gary asked for chili for dinner, something we usually only do in winter, but after days of gloom and rain, it seemed like a good idea, and I made a batch. He baked corn bread, which was yummm.
Asher continues to be in better shape, though still coughing once in a while. The medication regime and especially the hay soaking will definitely get old by the time snow flies, so I hope he's back to normal by then. Note for the curious: Ten pounds of hay, after soaking in water for five minutes, weighs a heck of a lot more. He seems not to mind wet hay, though. Gary was worried that he hasn't been drinking as much water at night as usual, until we realized that he's getting a gallon or two in each hay ration. For those who don't know, Asher's the one on the left (my right) in the user picture. His brother Archie is on the right.
Oh, and we did finally have to swap in the spare sump pump for under the house. It's running every minute or so now. The old one seems to have a faulty activator switch, for which we got a replacement this afternoon (much cheaper than buying a whole pump, let me tell you.)
