Is it 40 days and 40 nights yet? It sure feels like it. The long term forecast has either "chance of thunderstorms" or "thunderstorms likely" for every day and night in the next week, too.

No Clinton parade for us (nor, I suspect, for many others if there was a parade at all.) Both they and we were on flood warnings all day, and it continued to rain on and off, sometimes quite heavily. I broke down and went to WalMart, where I bought a new pair of "Brown dairy boots, size 11" to replace the ones that sprang a huge leak at the end of the winter. Consequently, I got to do chores with dry feet for the first time in many days.

Gary asked for chili for dinner, something we usually only do in winter, but after days of gloom and rain, it seemed like a good idea, and I made a batch. He baked corn bread, which was yummm.

Asher continues to be in better shape, though still coughing once in a while. The medication regime and especially the hay soaking will definitely get old by the time snow flies, so I hope he's back to normal by then. Note for the curious: Ten pounds of hay, after soaking in water for five minutes, weighs a heck of a lot more. He seems not to mind wet hay, though. Gary was worried that he hasn't been drinking as much water at night as usual, until we realized that he's getting a gallon or two in each hay ration. For those who don't know, Asher's the one on the left (my right) in the user picture. His brother Archie is on the right.

Oh, and we did finally have to swap in the spare sump pump for under the house. It's running every minute or so now. The old one seems to have a faulty activator switch, for which we got a replacement this afternoon (much cheaper than buying a whole pump, let me tell you.)

The brother's look like they can get up to mischief :) They look nice together there.

*waits by the fridge for leftovers and a rain ration* Actually did you go out and point the clouds our way? Because it started raining yesterday evening.

*gives you buttery cornbread and some ice cream because he has a firm rule about not giving beans to kitties*

I sort of waved the clouds in your general direction, but I didn't bother to work out the exact great circle bearing. It doesn't look as if very many of them went, though. It rained all night, now we have fog and the "bilge" pump is going off every 50 seconds. Our internet connection went down last night too. Using dialup over the voice phone line right now.

Simple. It's a conclusion supported by detailed experimental evidence.

FELINE + BEANS = GAS3

The risk of explosion or suffocation is too large. ;p

How come Felines are being singled out in this respect?

Are felines more gaseous than other creatures?

It has been proven empirically in my presence, more than once. Feed beans to a feline, and said feline will be flying around like a rocket under the power of its own emissions within a very few hours. It's amazing but not a recommended experiment unless the weather is such that you can have all the windows open. Expect some very messy kitty litter too.

I imagine a cat fed a steady diet of beans might develop the ability to digest them more efficiently. Interestingly, all the ones I've seen who were offered beans ate them quite readily. Eagerly even. But the consequences are just too gross. One of our dogs here is the same way. It could be deadly to let her eat beans or peanut butter, especially in the winter when we are using the woodstove...

Yeah, we're having something less than summer over this side, too. It's getting tedious. Occasionally a pleasant bright spell comes along, but not often enough for my liking.

The spells of sunlight seem to last less and less each time. The most recent was all of two hours. Everything is as green as Ireland though, when you can see it through the fog. ;p

Mmmmm, chili and cornbread with lots of butter. Even better if it's jalapeno cornbread.

It's rained here in Fairmont for a solid week, and shows no signs of letting up.

And it's raining again now, fairly hard. I added it up. We've had ten inches of rain in the last 8 days.

Yeah, you look about like I expected- "very generous" and "good-natured" comes to mind. How tall are you? The horses throw me off, persective-wise.

*puts hand up* No, no cornbread thanks. I'm not needy anymore :P

Sure you're needy. We all are.

I'm six feet tall, even. Tallest in my family, taller than either parent or any sibling. I weigh more than I should really, but I seem to be making some progress on that.

I'm about 5'10", not the tallest but definitly the most interesting. Most of my family are either dull bores or paranoid shut-ins. I'm probably the black sheep of the family, too... which means I'm the best at coping and living free of restraints, as I see it :P
