Rainy and gloomy all day. Didn't accomplish much, really, except for finishing the last of the Polwarth wool, now washed and drying. Made my famous home-made pizza for dinner, that was a success. And now I'm all alone because the bear went off to Chicago so he can dance the sun up tomorrow with his Morris troop.

Tess has us a little on edge, she was acting like her feet hurt her today. Not actually lying down, but lifting first one and then another as she stood very subdued and quiet. Cleaning them, we found she had mud packed on the bottoms so I'm hoping it was just that. It piles up and makes a sort of ball under the foot, putting the pressure on the frog instead of the hoof wall where it belongs. I went out to check on her just at dusk and she seemed better, chuckle talking at me as she often does and nuzzling. I'd hate to have anything happen to her.

Overall rating for vacation? Four and a half apples for relaxation. Three apples for accomplishing things. Five apples for not having to think about work. Two and a half apples for the weather. Mmm. Apples.

Just realized I'm so out of it from being exhausted from work that I forgot it isn't a 12 day workweek.

Its a 13 day workweek.

Friday thru today, the last day of April, plus the first 10 days of April = 13 days.

Yaaup. Another long day today. I've got a theory though that defies my boss and delivery driver who both insist tomorrow's going to be killer busy because this weekend was and tomorrow will be even busier because people get their food stamps. My theory is, this weekend's been busy for one big reason, especially noticing (as I have the unique position between my boss and RSR of noticing, since I'm actually in the stores when the customers are shopping) that a higher proportion than normal of customers this weekend have been hispanic, and they've been really overloading their shopping carts. I think its preparation for the boycott tomorrow. If I'm right, tomorrow will be very slow.

Still, I have an unusual meeting to attend in the morning ... unusual because its being held in a casino. I have no clue what its about. I don't think its a party though, as they call it a "sales rally" which was the name they gave to the same meeting on Friday which was at the distribution center, which was (for me) a lot of hard work building sales displays.

Anyhoo, onto day 4 tomorrow ... got home at 11:30 p.m. or so again tonight, gotta be up by 7 tomorrow, you figure out when I eat, bathe and sleep in that ... eek, I should really post these whines to my lj and stop cluttering up the clydesdale trying to enjoy the last hours of his vacation ...

Well yes there is that, I think I'd prefer a bag of oats if I was a horsie.

As you turn from the bedroom door to go make lunch you feel dizzy.

There is a whirling/swirling/wooshing noise. Like when your dunking
for apples, watery, muffled.

Then...

The air smells clean, sharp, like a new snow is coming. There is a spice
scent.

The Mares are about.

You run full out, unaware, and unafraid of chuckholes or fences, because
there are none, your mane rustles and makes silky paper like noises that
makes your ears flicker back, your tail swats with its gentle horsehair
on your rump as clods of dirt the size of softballs fly off behind
you and the mare jinks this way and that.

She stops and turns and looks at you, great large expressive brown eyes
from her dappled gray and spotted black face.

You nose her.

There is a...

"Hey...HEY! I'm soooo glad your back, I can't figure this linux crap, we've
got no catalog! People have been making me run all morning, can you
fix it? Oh please oh please?"

You refrain from violence.

^.~

Hee. Yup, that's it all right.

They bought a printer in my absence. Off EBay no less. "This printer doesn't work. They said it was working fine but it doesn't work."

*examines printer, looks at cable they used to connect it*

"You used a PCAnywhere cable to connect it. That's only to make two PCs talk to each other with special software. It can't print using that."

"It's the only one we had with the right connectors."

*turns printer over and unplugs the cable to find printer has female DB-25*

"I think this is a serial printer, not parallel. We'll have to order a serial printer cable for it."

And that's what it was. Downloaded the manual from the manufacturer web site, checked the full model number. We have several of these Star SP200 printers in use, but all of them are parallel. This one is serial.

"What do you mean it's different? It says SP200 on it, same as the others. It looks the same. It uses the same paper and ribbon."

"Look here on the bottom. See that "C" where the other has a "D"? That's the difference."

Printer is now running using the configuration null modem cable for the firewall box, plus a gender changer. *adds serial printer cable to shopping list*

Good to be back? XD we only just got the internet and network up again so I can now do internet thingies at work again, instead of just sitting like a mullet when there's nothing to do.
