Rumble, rumble...

[Sound of thunderclaps in the distance] It's been that way all afternoon, yet no rain here. For a while the severe storm warnings completely surrounded us, but we never got any actual rain.

We did go to Elgin for the race this morning, where there was way too much food, it was really too warm and humid, and other than that, it was good. Saw friends we haven't seen in a while, and worried about people who kept dropping out of the race because of the heat and were getting hauled away in ambulances. Heat index was probably 95 or higher, I'd guess. Silly to run a race on a day like that, really.

Came home, did chores, tried not to fall asleep in the heat. I did do my ironing, finally, so I'm good for several weeks now until the hated task comes up again. Made another rhubarb pie, and home made pizza with cheese and multiple veggies on it as well as salad from the garden again. And the evening and the morning were over and the night came, with more thunder. At least this is a short week, only four days.

A little trick to avoid the ironing, is just to throw them in the dryer for perhaps 5mins, Since that is perhaps a bit wasteful my attire now consists of cotton poly blend trousers and shirt as such they don't seem to need ironing.

Yup, I know all those tricks, believe me. Still, some of my favorite shirts do need ironing, so I have to break down and do it once in a while. ;p

Sure. In winter, wear sweat clothes. In summer, wear shorts and t-shirts. Or if it gets really hot, go naked. ;p

That is one thing I'll never do...is go dévêtu XD
We have a certain slang term for the sweat-pants, the generic elastic waistband type cotton pants.

Trakky - comes from Track pants
Daks - already an established slang term for pants and underpants.

Nothing is as unfashionable as wearing Trakky-Daks XD
(however since I'm ill at the mo I can wear them with no fear of ridicule)

Our weather down here consists of hot dry weather in the winter, and hot wetter weather in the summer, punctuated by the occasional hurricane warning.

Right now it rains sparingly but you can feel the change in weather in the air.

I have so much ironing backed up. I'll try the dryer trick. I only decided to start doing my own ironing and cleaning recently so I'm new at this stuff. I was tired of hauling my clothes to the cleaners and decided not to hire someone to clean and wash. I decided I should be able to take care of this myself (I had an attack of self-sufficiency). But I'm losing the wrinkle wars!!!

Well, if you are willing to wear the things they make in wrinkle-resistant fabrics, you can avoid a lot of ironing. The key is indeed getting it from the dryer immediately, preferably after using a permanent press cycle on the dryer (lower heat, with a cool down that happens while the clothes are still tumbling, remove clothes just slightly damp and hang on hangers immediately.)

Trouble is, as a fiber worker myself, I have a strong dislike for the feel and texture of cotton polyester blend clothing. Since my work doesn't bind me to white shirts and ties, I have considerable freedom and I take advantage of it, generally in all natural fibers. Cotton and linen just don't work well unless you iron them after washing.

I HATE laundry, especially ironing, fortunetly I can get away with
cotton stuff that I can fish from the laundry and hang up. I'd
have to hire someone to do ironing. I can't even iron a tie. I
know, a character flaw, but there it is.

Actually doing the laundry I have finally gotten to handle, now that I have my own washer and dryer right in my house. When I had to take it to a laundromat or to a shared laundry room somewhere in the apartment complex, well, that is probably where my phobic distaste came from in the first place.

Ironing is another matter. It's just plain deadly dull to do. My mate actually likes ironing, and when I commuted 5 hours a day to work I let him iron my shirts for me. Now that I have more free time, I feel too guilty to let him do it any more. ;p

No, I won't. Actually, he loves tools and gadgets, but I learned years ago that I can't even guess when it comes to exactly which tool would excite or please him. The only way to buy him that kind of stuff is take him somewhere and let him pick it out himself. And he already has an iron that far exceeds in engineering complexity anything I ever knew existed until I saw it.

This year with much pressure I got him to say he would like one of those adapters that lets an mp3 player broadcast to the fm car radio, so he'll get that for sure and we'll be going somewhere nice for dinner, but those alone are not enough.

Nope. It's a supposed "professional" tailor's iron, with a separate water and steam reservoir that holds two liters of water. The iron is connected to that by a long flexible hose, and can pump out steam like the presses in a dry cleaning shop.

Yes. Fortunately he's not able to design and build his own, or the iron would weigh more than a kilo and the water reservoir would hold 40 liters and be connected directly to the plumbing so it could refill itself.

Thats not a bad idea, he could rig one of those hot water geisers people often have for making tea or coffee. A heavy iron would certainly help the ironing process perhaps not for delicate things, but he could have detachable ends for different types of ironing. :D
