Busy day. Mate went off to a Civil War recreation thingie (I'm not interested in those) and left me to do the farm chores (fair trade, he does the same for me) plus the shopping and get to my hand spinning guild meeting today. Managed it all, but I'm beat and will probably fall asleep early.

Played with the LJ jabber server a bit more, including a nice little chat with [livejournal.com profile] slith_tschillin. I'm not an enthusiastic IM user, actually, but I like the idea of having all my LJ friends on one IM system with the names I already know them by. I hope it catches on.

I need to start walking my mare Tess on a lead. No, not for exercise but because she can now have grass to eat again, but has to start out with no more than five or ten minutes a day for a while. It takes longer than that to walk her out to the pasture and turn her loose, so I won't be doing that for quite a while yet. Meant to start today, but the weather got threatening before I was done with the chores, so I put it off. Mañana.

Yeah, I like the Jabber idea too... just need to snag a program that can log in to it since the basic version of trillian can't. meh, I'll do that sometime.

heh, you need to pay for trillian in order to do jabber.
gaim (which is a multi-protocol app) is free and does jabber too.
If you want just a jabber client, try out psi.

Kyh has you covered. I use gaim for all the things Trillian does. It's free, and it works great for IRC, AIM, Yahoo, etc. plus you can use it for jabber. If you go to the site, be aware that it was a Linux program first, so you have to follow the sidebar to the Windows version for downloading.

Alrighty. Thanks for the notice. I'll probably give gaim a try.

Hmmm, a friend of mine from highschool is heavily into Civil War reenactments. I think he has it in mind for me to help him out with a resell business for hardware (muskets, canteens, tents, etc.)

I guess that can be a pretty big business. The larger reenactment sites have as much sideshow of dealer space and stuff as the actual presentation. It's similar in principle to the dealer room at a furry or scifi convention, or the flea market at a hamfest or computer show. Real antiques of civil war vintage go for huge sums, of course. But the reproductions are more reasonably priced.
