As usual, the week ends in a flurry of activity. A moment of peace right now while Gary is off at a performance that I'm not attending.

Why is it that so many people always arrive at the library just 15 minutes before closing? And they always expect us to wait while they do whatever they came to do, even if it will take them an hour? (We don't do that.)

Or our "user rep" from the primary computer hardware supplier we use calls me "to show me what I can do on their website," to which I respond "What do you mean?" Oh, things like reviewing your invoices, requesting estimates, and placing orders. Duh. I've been doing that there for two years and she doesn't realize it?

The neighbors whose animals stray all over the place seem to have yet another cat. He's over here stalking birds, but when approached runs back to their house. Their yappy little terrier spends more time here than at home, mostly hanging out in the arena.

Reminder to self: check for okra in garden tomorrow, it should be ready to start picking.

I admit, I have shown up fifteen before closing.

Though I usually run right up to the shelf where they
put the "current books" and grab something.

That's not so bad. I'm talking about people who bring five kids in the door and need 30 minutes just to round them all up again. Or the whole family descends on the videos and proceeds to argue about what they are going to watch. Or they want to send a twenty page fax. We charge a dollar a page (I really think we just shouldn't do faxes) and they still want to do that instead of using regular mail. I think it gives them a sense of self importance or something.

At least we've solved the ones who want to get on the internet and then won't get off at closing: all the public computers automatically shut themselves down 15 minutes early, and there's no way to override it. ;p

We still get calls from our own phone company asking if we want to switch to them. We have three phone lines and cable internet with them :P I love telling them that XD

A kitty :) Yes you should feel proud that your home and garden are so animal friendly, they love it you see.

Kitties are fine. Kitties who eat songbirds, however, are not welcome. I shoot beans at them with a slingshot, in fact. I realize that predation is part of nature and all that, but we feed birds so we have created an unnatural situation with a high population of songbirds near the house. That makes it too easy for the cat, and too risky for the birds, so cats who take advantage of that are unwelcome.

Oh I agree, for some reason my kitty doesn't go after birds....I think it's because the birds we get roaming around are the same size as her.

True, you folks have some big birdies. Cats vary in their preferences. Some just can't resist things with feathers, others couldn't care less. One of ours is a big hunter, but though he watches birds, he rarely bothers them. Rodents are his thing, and he can catch several any evening. He's even taken on full grown squirrels and won. (Left me a head and a tail. Ugh.)
