And I refuse to be treated like a monkey. Nonetheless, I get to go to Rockford tomorrow for an all day class that will probably start again with "This is a computer. Who doesn't know how to use a mouse?" On the plus side, it means I don't have to work that hated Wednesday second shift. The class is slated to end by 4:30 pm and by then my day will be in, so the boss is covering my evening. I guess I can stand the trade. I'm taking my knitting though for something to do, because this is going to be BORE-BORE-BOR-ING.

Cold, gloomy, damp. We turned the heat on today at home and at work. It's kinda early in the year for that. Possible frost tonight. Kinda early for that too. I even lit up the (gas) fireplace in the library, but didn't check to see if the comfortable chairs around it were full of people later. I hope they were. I wish I had time to sit there and read myself.

Moving along rapidly through Volle which is a great storyline. Full review when I'm done, of course. Realized that it is followed not immediately by the second novel, Pendant of Fortune but rather by a two part story, "The Prisoner's Release" that appeared in Sofawolf's Heat issues 1 and 2. I already have issue 2, but hadn't read the story because it ends in that issue. So I quick ordered issue 1. Should be here by the time I finish Volle, hopefully.

Glad to hear you're enjoying Volle. I started re-reading it last week, and it's just as good the second time around, IMHO. Now, the big question is whether you'll recommend that the library order copies of Volle and Pendant of Fortune to put into circulation ;-)

I could order it, yes. But there's all that "community standards" stuff to consider. We have books that are equally explicit on the shelves, in fact, and no one has complained (mostly because none of them are well known or notorious.) The biggest concern, and this is amusing, would be that if it got to someone other than myself to be cataloged, it would automatically end up in the children's department because it has talking animals. That, I promise you, would lead to a fuss eventually. These are people who would automatically put the video of Fritz the Cat in the kids' department too. If I tried to explain what it was, my boss would get it, but the rest would not. It would be incomprehensible to them. Ultimate conclusion: there is no audience for it here. Interestingly enough, not one of the thousands of libraries in OCLC has yet cataloged it, and that does surprise me. Amazon carries Breaking the Ice: Stories from New Tibet (also from Sofawolf, also 100% furry, but no explicit sexuality) but not Volle. But Amazon doesn't draw a line on sexually explicit material. They have Megan's Mark by Lora Leigh, for instance, so why not Volle?

[Malin] The answer is simple: we haven't provided "Volle" to Amazon to sell yet. :) Amazon takes a big chunk of cover price, so we haven't sent our whole catalog to them, just some titles like Breaking the Ice and Shadows in Snow, as you observed, some of the Artistic Visions books, and a couple others.

We had been pondering the logistics of providing explicit material to Amazon, especially as "Volle" is garnering some reviews out there in the world, but it hasn't happened yet. Nothing sinister on Amazon's part--it's just us.

I didn't mean to imply that Amazon was being sinister. :)

I suspected, in fact, that this was the case. No surprise that Volle is getting reviews, because it is very high quality work. In fact, I'll be adding to the list of reviews very soon, and will just point readers directly to Sofawolf as the source.

Much appreciated! And glad you're enjoying the books. The author has a collection coming out in January that reprints "Prisoner's Release" and includes three new stories in the world.

And if you're a New Tibet fan, we have a New Tibet novel coming out in January as well. :)

I am indeed a New Tibet fan, depressing as it is. :)

In fact, you can find my New Tibet review right here.

All of those sound exciting. And in winter, I get more time to read.

[Malin] It's always winter on New Tibet. :)

Very nice review--thanks for sharing it. Did you just get as far as the first anthology? I know we didn't do as good as job as we should have in promoting the second outside of cons.

I've just received the second book but haven't read it yet. My own writing and other projects keep me moving at a sometimes tortoise-like pace. ;p

I don't mind the cooler weather at all, and I'm looking forward to the autumn color. But... we have bushels of unripened tomatoes and stuff in the garden. I really would prefer a couple of weeks of nice warm sun yet.

Prepare some counter-questions to throw the instructor off his script, like if he says that a mouse has to be placed so the wire comes out away from you, ask if that's true for wireless mice too.

I'm already infamous for that sort of thing and had best not do it. On the other hand, it seems to be spreading to my boss. She has gone from telling me that I am too negative to actually anticipating my criticisms and voicing them herself.

I need some reading time! Up in Canada I had a daily one hour commute to work on the subway and was reading a book or two a week.

Now I have a 3 minute drive to and from work. I bought Volle at AC and haven't had the chance to pick it up yet.

I know what you mean. I used to have a 90 minute train ride each way and got LOTS of reading done. Now I have to grab minutes here and there.

I used to be able to read in bed before falling asleep, but in recent years, by the time I get to bed, there's no hope. I fall asleep as soon as I open the book.

Yeah, the fireplace is a nice thing, even if it is just gas and fake logs. People like it. The old library building was put up in 1909, and had a real woodburning fireplace. The new one, built six years ago, was designed without and then the suggestion was made just in time that some kind of fireplace reading nook be added. The architect complied and we have it, thank goodness.

I'm used to dealing with wood and ashes, though. Having a fireplace that turns on and off with a remote control is kind of... disorienting?

I think you'd like Volle, though it's all about foxes, wolves and bears. No horseys, darn it. As far as I know, the only way to get a copy is by buying it at a furry con or else ordering it from SofaWolf Press.
