So. The glass replacement guy called at 8:30 this morning and said he'd be in to look at the window and estimate the repair. He never showed up.

The ADT alarm technician did finally show late in the day, but couldn't explain how the burglar managed to avoid setting off the alarm. As usual, ADT makes it our fault. Whenever their equipment doesn't work, it's our fault, even if they can't explain what we did wrong.

Police detective came back to verify some things, and listened to my suggested scenario for the whole event. He seemed to find it plausible. Then he told us that there has been a series of these break-ins over the past few days, all with similar methods (break window at rear of building, grab a few items indiscriminately, and go out the back door). They've happened up and down US14, the main street through town, though the library is actually six blocks away from that highway. Typically two or three places have been hit each night, and he thinks as I do, that the burglars are inexperienced and probably teens.

Finished the shawl I've been working on forEVer, which is what happens when you start with the wool and go through the whole process. It looks nice, though. Photos tomorrow hopefully. Gotta get busy, now. I need to finish a skein of silk by Thursday and a skein of linen before Monday, as well as finishing the weaving of one more scarf that's been sitting on the loom. Monday is when we hang the show. Weaving gets judged Tuesday, spinning and knitting on Thursday, the same day the show opens.

Weather finally looks like September. Clear blue skies and cool temperatures. I should go out and look at the stars, but I think I'm too sleepy tonight.

Oh, and Fur-Piled has been updated, ending one chapter and starting another. A must for fans of Husky, Saetto, and their friends.

Some third party commiseration: Dave (Wolf) has had terrible problems getting ADT to come out and do upgrade work for his house over the past year. It finally got done (I think), but there were more missed appointments and voice mail messages than any person should have to put up with. One wonders if the choice is between ADT security or none at all, would one be better off with none?

Sounds like it would, as at least then, you would know what to expect and would be paying a lot less for predictable reliability.

Sounds like its time to ditch ADT, not like their thing did anything.

We had a spate of break ins here at the hospital a few months ago. They kepy coming back. Anyway, unknown to us, the police tagged our stuff with RFID, and then the thieves were arrested after their final raid. A gang from Leeds apparently.

This seems to be a very common problem these days in all sorts of businesses. They seem to feel so secure in their market share that it doesn't matter to them whether they aggravate customers in that way. Or it's a management theory that you always promise to be there within the hour, even when you know perfectly well it will take at least two weeks. I can well imagine that the local commercial window specialist is overloaded if there have been that many smash and enter incidents this week, but he could jolly well admit it and say it will take him a couple of days. ADT outsources its support here (and probably in most non-urban settings) so we have first to deal with their telephone support (which may be in India for all I know) and convince them that a service call is really needed. That convincing is extremely difficult. Then when the service call is finally agreed to, it takes days or weeks to get the third party guy to actually arrive. I agree, they may not be worth it, and they are very overpriced for what you seem to get. As with so many things, you pay for the brand name and those little stickers on the doors and windows rather than for actual quality.

I agree, they don't seem to be worth much, but they're the only provider in town as the saying goes. It's ADT or no alarm system.

That makes sense if you can predict at all what is likely to be taken. In this case, other than the money, the things stolen were not what I'd consider to be obvious targets. Computers, art, and/or antiques whould have been the things taken by professionals I'm sure. The cameras were cheap ones, the projector was five years old and well-worn. In fact, I'm rather glad of the excuse to replace the projector. The next one will be a permanently installed model, attached to the ceiling of the meeting room if I get my way.

Yeah. I really enjoy that one. It's frustrating that he is so busy with school that the updates are really slow. I'd be on pins and needles over the outcome of Saetto and Husky's disagreement if it weren't for the fact that the result was already revealed in the separate strip that appeared in Heat #2. So we know they will make up eventually, thank goodness. Now Car is back again and obviously that is going somewhere. I'm very curious to know just where. It's like a TV soap opera except it's furry. ;p

Funny, that's the problem Dave has too. ADT bought up the competition, so they're the only game in town (mind, this is metro Louisville -- not exactly rural). Unless he wants to buy a rottweiler or a pit bull, maybe.

Yes, I'm sure they learn that in MBA school. Buy up the competition or force them out of business. Then it doesn't matter how much you degrade the quality of your product by cost-cutting and outsourcing, because the customer will have no choice.

I use a local alarm company myself, but there are people in
my circle (literally the cirlce street I life on) that have
had break in's and used ADT and, yup, their fault.

You know, speaking of shawls...

Hi- really awful news. At home, my parents got broken into while I was in high school. I felt really violated. I'm glad to hear that nothing irreplaceable was lost. Is the show that you are hanging the textile show in Woodstock? How long does the show run?

Hiya. (There's a trick, I think, for getting your identity recognized from other blog sites so you don't come up as anonymous. I'll have to check on it for you.)

Yes. The WWG/HTS show opens in Woodstock on Thursday, October 5 and runs through Sunday, October 29. Gallery hours are 11 am to 5 pm Thursday through Saturday, and 1 to 5 pm on Sundays. Opening reception (with refreshments and live music) for both concurrent shows (the other is the Woodstock Clayworkers Guild) will be on Sunday, October 8, from 1 to 3 pm. Gary will be one of the musicians at the reception, and I'll be demonstrating spinning.

If you can make it up to the show any time while it's open, let us know when so we can plan dinner or lunch or something with you.

We have an attack cat on premises. Unfortunately, she probably slept through the whole thing as is her wont.

Ahhh so it's a monopoly, hmmm what you need is a bit of competition. *thinks*

Yep. And as usual, monopolies quickly deteriorate until they charge too much and deliver too little.
