I knew it would when [livejournal.com profile] vakkotaur reported he had snow in Minnesota. Just as I left the house to go to work, it hit us hard. Visibility dropped to about 50 feet during my 16 mile drive, with hard winds. There was some accumulation on grass, but the winds kept the roads clear. By the time I got to the library, it was just a light flurry. An hour later, the sun was shining.

But... I just happened to look at the radar map, and there was another green blob headed right at us. Sure enough, in less than a minute we went from sunlight to a total whiteout. Visibility was zero. That lasted ten minutes, now we're back to moderate snow with slight accumulation. I see more coming on the radar, though. Looks like a good day to stay indoors and put a fire in the woodstove. Glad I can go home at noon.

This is new. :-) I'm reading about people's first sightings of winter on LJ first, rather than reading them after I've already been counting the months till its over. ;-)

Because you're in Ontario now? That probably does make a difference, but snowstorms here are likely to reach you at least in the form of rain within a day or so.

Yes, but... there's a chance of wet flurries here tonight.
Oh well. I guess my first taste of winter just gets no more than a 1-day delay. :-)

I still work outside without a jacket on, we're pulling 15C or higher day temps with just moderate cloud cover and a bit of rain now and then.

That would be about normal here too. This is about a month early for the weather we're having today.

I dunno. I'm not sure about snow this year. Its been so
nice, for so long, I still would go in the pool.

Snow?

Well, like death and taxes...

I don't mind snow much. But it really is too early. There are still apples on the trees, darn it.

There's an apple orchard up north, say within 50 miles of the Mackinac Bridge, that had a big hand-painted sign that said SNO-KIST. That's what your apples are now. :)

I cant bleieve it myself. They are predicting a chance of snow here for tonight. I live in southern missouri as in you can pee off my front porch and hit arkansas. I hope this isnt just an intro to a bad winter.

*snicker* No matter how low you get, there's always someone to pee on?

I wouldn't think you'd see a lot of snow down there most years.

We hardly got any snow at all last year. But people are already saying there will be a lot more this winter.

Whiteouts already though?

I better start saving for those snow tires.

We had almost no snow here last winter, but there was almost no rain the summer before, too. This year the rain was regular all summer, and it seems to just be continuing. Another whiteout is in progress as I type. The sun was shining five minutes ago, now visibility is declining rapidly. Radar map is interesting. You can watch these little bursts developing to the west of us and just rolling right over and on out into Lake Michigan.

Dear Rider.

Doing the same thing here. Off and on, mostly on, blowing snow almost like a blizzard. Varies from mid twenties to mid thirties within minutes. Sun pops out with blue sky then s'more snow blowing flurries. Medium winds. Not nice.

Bear and I fixed wood stove pipe leaks (baseboard heating upstairs... when it works it works great) so house is comfywarm and snugglysealed (it IS a great house, insulation and no-cracks-wise). Just needs a total re-modelling but progress is being made, if not slow. Er, snow. Er, never mind.

Same thing driving in the dark this morning, doing 35mph because simply cannot see far enough to go faster safely. Of course a few blow by as though it was sunny and clear but they sometimes wind up killing themselves or somebody else so I just pull over far as I can and let 'em go. I think some fool, er folks, have good luck, plain and simple.

Sunny here now, but cold (34 degrees) and I wanna curl up by the stove and nap. Durn cold is getting to me now. Can't, though. Gotta go clean barns, and then a couple hours later do chores before I can sleep.

Personally, I love snowy winters. Then again, when I lived where it snowed, I had the best vehicle in the world for driving in it (An M983 HEMTT, baby!).

To me, it just sounds like nice snuggly-uppy weather. Maybe that's why so many unicorn foals are born eleven months after the coldest snows!

Thanks but no, I don't wanna buy fuel for that thing. ;p

I like snow in general, but I'd rather let the tomatoes get ripe first. Until you get used to it again, doing farm chores in subfreezing weather is quite a burden, too.

Nice. I am still waiting for the snow, should come any time now... I am tired of this cold, wet weather.

You must not have to do barn chores in it. Carrying water in buckets because hoses freeze, slogging wheelbarrows through slush and ice...

My mate asked me this morning again if I'd consider selling two of the three horses. And I know why. He's thinking about another winter of chores.

Nothing much to frolic in (yet). It all melted except for little bits on leaves and branches that are in the shade. There was a lot of high wind, up to 50 mph or so, and it wasn't pleasant to be outside at all.

You're welcome to come frolic here any time, but if you want snow, you'd best wait a bit.

Hey there!

I was wondering if you'd be interested in being on the "Hooves" panel again this year at MFF. I just found out that no one has signed up for it yet. So now I'm planning to do it, and I would appreciate your help. Please let me know!

Depending on when it is scheduled, I will probably attend, but I prefer not to be a panelist. I was most unhappy last year when they yanked it from spirituality into fandom. Though I do fursuiting, my interests are largely therianthropic and not fandom. The idea of fandom gives the whole thing a different slant, in my opinion. That's no reflection on you, of course, it wasn't your decision. But I'm on two panels already, and that's probably a sufficient load of "officiality" for me. :)

From: [identity profile] mistletoe.livejournal.com
Okay. I would appreciate you being there anyway, to give me some "unofficial" help. ;)

I know what you mean about a "different slant." This is why Dali and I are doing a definite shift from the former "Women in the Fandom" panel to "Incarnations of Mother Earth: Women's Spirituality". When it was about Fandom, there was more negativity. People whined, boasted, bitched, and pointed fingers. It wasn't all bad, but I can see there being much more positivity and profoundness when we shift it to spiritual focus.

That was odd that they suddenly switched the track that the "Hoof" panel fell under last year. I went and looked in last year's conbook to refresh my mind and saw that. You cleary described the panel as being about "spirituality" yet it was under the Fandom track. I know that they decided to do this for all species-specific panels, regardless of whether or not it had to do with spirituality. Even though the "Hoof" panel will again be in the Fandom track, I will open it for spiritual discussion. The track it's under will not affect my plans for it.
