That was a really fun read. Stole a little time from work to read it. Hasn't taken you very long either. And what is in the stew the carnivores get at school?

I thought I had at least hinted at that. We have here a world something like Narnia. There are twofers, the bipedal anthropoid forms with limited instinct but lots of physical features left from their animal ancestors. They have the ability to speak, read, and write, but may not be as capable at some other things as their ancestors were. There are quads, who retain the original animal form, but have at least limited speech. And there are animals of various types who remain unchanged. I haven't shown a talking squirrel or a talking mouse because they don't figure in this world as I envisioned it. The rodents, as far as we know, remained largely unaffected by the mutations of the Change. They are, therefore, still potential food sources for the absolute carnivores like the felines, who have little leeway for adjusting their digestive needs. Likewise the cold-blooded animals, fish, molluscs, frogs, lizards, etc. might be food sources. At the confluence of two major rivers that have had two centuries to run themselves clear again, I'd expect a certain amount of productive fishery.

There is a lot more to be revealed of course, some of which may or may not surprise you or other readers. ;D
