To all, and to all a good night.

Don't drink and drive, please. We just watched the sheriff and a tow truck come to pull someone back onto the road in front of a neighbor's house. The roads are dry here, there is no rain or snow. Not hard to guess why the guy fell off into the ditch. Apparently he wasn't hurt seriously as no ambulance arrived.

Happy new year!

Yeah, no worries here, celebration was rather dry this time... ^^

You know I don't drink, didn't even have liquor chocolates this year. Nor do I drive, but that's a different story. ;)

Happy new year, Tivo. May 2007 bring you all the best.

There's not much to understand. It's a drug like any other, the main difference being that tradition has kept it legal and easily available.

Social approbation encourages some people to overindulge, and become addicted, which is bad. There appears to be a genetic weakness that makes it more likely that some will become addicted, as well as genetic weaknesses that make some react negatively so that they never care to drink it at all.

I like the taste and smell of wine, and occasionally beer or cider. I also like the flavor of rum and brandy. But I don't care for the effect of being drunk at all, and have only gone that far a couple of times in my life. My father was the same way.

I'm reminded of the exchange between Ford Prefect and Arthur Dent in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy:

"If you've never been through a hyperspace jump before, it's rather like being drunk."

"What's wrong with being drunk?"

"Ask a glass of water."

I guess I'm in that list of people who don't care about being drunk at all... though my grandfather died of alcohol poisoning, and my own father virtually ruined my family's life thanks to his drinking problem, so I just don't have a very good opinion on drinking, anyway.

That's fine and makes sense. It's fine to be disapproving of drunks, too. But given the social position held by alcohol, best not to go as far as the WCTU tried to go. ;p (Not that you have in particular, I'm just saying.)

It's a good thing you don't drink, because I think the way you drive you would be seriously affected. ;)

Too bad that I don't drink much alcohol because I could have and should have gotten excessively drunk and then went out driving and rid the world of myself :) But I didn't.

Oh, poo. Your excessive dislike of yourself gets to be pointless, you know. It's even predictable.
