Still cold but...

Not as bad as last night. We only got down to about 4°F. last night, actually.

Also realized this morning that as of this year I'm qualified for membership in QCWA, a club for people who received their amateur radio license at least 25 years ago. I got my novice license in 1982. So I went and got their membership form and sent it in.

Got a bunch of magazines in the mail yesterday and today: QST, Ten-Ten International, Perfect Horse, American Philatelist, and a new issue of Tai-Pan so I'm gonna do some reading if I can stay awake for it.

I loved Tai-Pan. When waiting for an arranged pickup in Canton to visit an obscure restaurant along the coast to celebrate the festival of the Sea Goddess many different boats came and went and I wondered just what type of vessel had been allocated. The wind was howling down gun-shot rain, visibily was down to a few yards as the fog swirled like wads of cotton and then a grey shape appeared, it had gotten quite close under cover of the storm.

That fits, in a way. The Tai-pan for which the magazine is named is indeed a ship, but it's a space ship. It's science fiction.
