This week has been too long.

At least the sun was out today, but I guess it isn't supposed to last. Time to go feed the dogs. Everyone else is taken care of except for myself. Then I'll probably fall asleep, now that the sun is finally setting.

The housecats caught a mouse. Gary has been teasing them with one of those red pocket laser pointers, letting them chase the little dot of light. He has them convinced that the spot lives behind the bookcase in our bedroom. Now they keep vigil there for hours, waiting for the spot to come out. This afternoon two of them were sitting there, and I thought little of it, but ten minutes later they walked past me with a mouse. The orange tom had it in his mouth, the black queen was trying to take it from him. I couldn't tell whether it was alive or not.

After following them around for a while, they finally put it down. I thought it was dead, and tried to pick it up by the tail. Nope, it was alive but not fully functional. It squirmed and kicked its legs but couldn't walk. I had to find a dustpan and scoop it up, then dispose of it by drowning. Ugh. But if I hadn't done that, the cats would have grown tired of it eventually, probably whenever it stopped moving. Then one of the dogs would have come along and eaten it. I prefer not to be licked by a dog with mousebreath. Eeew.

My horse Tess was unusually affectionate, or at least interested in me, this afternoon. She kept breathing in my ears and nuzzling at my neck every time I got within reach. I wonder what's up with that? The boys do it frequently, but she has never been so inclined in the past.

Time for dinner, and soon after that I think, bed.

Nah, cats do it to themselves. They get so single minded it almost serves them right.

When I still lived in Westmont, Althalus enjoyed snacking after the geese...although currently his tastes have changed for navel cheese ;oP

Spring fever is here already?

Oh yes, goose poop. Actually, they prefer sheep poop if they can get it (chewier, like caramel) but goose poop will do in a pinch. In fact, we call it "sheep candy" or "the herd dog's reward."

I'm sure it all makes sense if you have a canine's sense of smell, but I think I'd rather stay a horse. ;p

Our dogs also go for toe jam, but only my toes. Gary's don't interest them. This has gone on for years, so that I won't go barefoot in the house any more because of sudden toe licks when I'm otherwise distracted.

Nope, and she knows to go for the pockets if that's what she's looking for. I don't keep treats in my ear. ;p
