It was well into the 80s today, though I guess it is supposed to be quite a bit cooler tomorrow. I'm resisting the temptation to turn on the air conditioning in the car because I know it will lower my fuel economy and I'm getting about 28.5 mpg right now.
Tess was eager to get out to the pasture this afternoon (no surprise, really, since she didn't get to go out yesterday) and I had to go back to teaching her not to try to run ahead of me. This isn't hard for me, but takes a lot of patience. It is sometimes hard for her, though, because each time she squeals and tries to trot ahead of me I make her stop completely for a few seconds and then let me get in front of her again before she can go. She did fairly well, though. Only two stops were needed. When we first started going back there this spring there were often as many as eight "pauses for recollection." So two isn't all that bad, but over the last week she has usually not needed any correction at all. She keeps nudging me to show her impatience but holds to my pace.
The machine that died last week with all the false indications has now been resurrected with a new HD. Runs perfectly so far. I considered throwing Linux on instead, but it has an XP license and is still under service contract so...

3) Hurrying would reinforce bad behavior. That's why I do just the opposite. My approach is quite gentle, because she still responds to "Whoa" and just stops. I don't have to jerk the lead or yell at her or any of that stuff.
