For those as geeky as I am, here's a screen shot of the Hercules emulator running MVS. It performs flawlessly. As [livejournal.com profile] hrrunka says, "The mind boggleth."

Here you can see the operator's console in the lower right corner, a TSO login screen in the upper left, and line printer output in the background. Not showing: two other user terminals, two other line printers, cardpunch output, and paper teletype console backup. (Click image to enlarge.)

At work we use a program called RUMBA which is DOS based.. We then came out with ICOMS which is DOS with a web overlay which is slower that dirt. You can still bring up the DOS emulator...

RUMBA? The one I know is a 3270 terminal emulator for connecting to mainframes or anything else that uses 3270 synchronous protocols. I would think that QWS3270 might be a better choice if they don't want to pay for a commercial product.

Unix and Linux come with tn3270 (character based) and x3270 (GUI window) 3270 emulators as standard equipment. I've never had occasion to use one before, but they work just fine. The only issue is learning the ALT keystrokes for all those special keys on a 3278 terminal. The x3270 program can display an extra keypad and let you click on it when necessary.
