First sunny day in a while, and pleasantly cool. Since I had to work evening shift, I took Tess out this morning. Made her wear a fly-mask, which she dislikes, because the flies have been really tormenting her badly the last few times she was out. The fly-mask has another peculiar effect, though. When I go back to fetch her, she always comes running to me. While I'd love to see her do that just for joy at seeing me, the way the dogs will, she does this because she wants the fly-mask removed and knows I will do it. I put her back in her pen, with most of her unfinished hay from early morning. She was so full of grass she didn't want the hay, though I'm sure she ate it later.

Went to work, met with the net admin from the head library of our new little consortium. He came for a tour of our facility and to see Linux in action, which I can definitely show. Then we talked geek stuff for almost two hours. Still managed to settle a few things, I think. No work tomorrow because I'm going to the dentist in the morning and I don't work Thursday afternoons.

Gary's going to be gone from tomorrow morning through Saturday, which means I get extra farm chores, but I'm hoping to go to Michigan for a couple of days soon so that will even things out.

They can look that way all right. The ones I use shouldn't be uncomfortable as long as they are properly fitted. All the contact points have sherpa fleece lining so nothing should chafe or anything like that. In bright sun when the flies are worst, they really don't obstruct vision that much (I've checked.) But somehow the idea seems to offend some horses, even though they hate flies in their face.

Oddly, our two boys were not supposed to like masks. In fact, we were warned not to try them because they'd go "loco". Well, they didn't, and they don't seem to care at all one way or another. Tess doesn't fight having hers put on, but she will try to rub it off afterward. She especially likes to rub it against me, as if to say "Take it off!"

Not half as glad as she was, I think. I'll take her out for a while again today. At the moment it is part sun, part cloud but with a tremendous roaring wind. The temperature is headed up to somewhere around 35C though, followed by possible thunderstorms.

Tess needs a straw hat :), we used to have heaps of flies around where I live, but over the years they've all but dissappeared. *scratches his head*

Dry weather will do that. After our dry summer in 2005, we've had almost no flies or mosquitos until now.
