Vacation day 1
Jun. 18th, 2007 09:20 pmReinstalled the big marine battery that powers the pasture fence zapper. I had pulled it yesterday to top up the electrolyte and recharge it.
Went shopping in Crystal lake. This may sound mundane, but I haven't had a chance to do that in months and needed some new jeans and a few other things. I also wanted to stop at Borders and spend my gift card from Christmas, since Amazon utterly failed to get the book I wanted for me.
We had lunch at Chili's, and stopped at Target, Borders, Office Depot, and Hancock Fabrics. While we were in the fabric store (where I bought three wooden buttons needed for that shirt I wove over the winter) a sudden thunderstorm deluged the area. We figured we'd best get home to bring the critters in, but it turned out that no rain had reached our own area at all. When we got to Woodstock, everything was dry, so we stopped at the feed store and then at Farm and Fleet before heading home.
Tess was supposed to go out when we got home, but it was already threatening and did eventually rain. It's raining again as I type this, with little occasional thunders but nothing serious.
Tomorrow is the big day when I get to be "interviewed" by the district library board to see if they want to have me fill one of their two vacancies on the board. That's at 7 pm, though, so I'll have the day for other things.
Oh, and the VAX emulation is now working (more or less) though it needs some fine tuning in the VMS installation. Pascal and FORTRAN compilers are installed and tested, but I still haven't got printer output. Since the emulation has no graphic display capability of its own, I also need to figure out how to code an xinit command so that another workstation can act as an X-server to utilize the Motif Desktop features now included in OpenVMS.
