Next weaving project going onto the loom now. This is for a set of soft cotton towels. My weavers' guild is celebrating its tenth annual show this fall, and inviting entries based on "Twists and Turns of Ten," so this will be one of those.

Ten Years Ten Years
Weaving draft for summer and winter towels. This was a name draft based on the word "tenyears" and converted to a four block summer and winter design. It will be worked in soft cotton flake yarns, with handspun for the red color in the weft. Finished size about 18 x 26 inches. (Draft is slightly elongated because it shows all weft threads at the same thickness when actually the white thread is much thinner than the red.)

"Summer and Winter" refers to a weaving technique that produces reverse images front to back. So on the other side, you will see red where you see white here, and vice versa.

There are, of course, similarities and connections.

Designing for loom controlled weaving has a great deal in common with programming at the binary level. And I do use a computer simulation program to speed up the process of selecting from among near-infinite possibilities.

*pretends to understand what you said and looks at cotten thread with that rather slightly crazed look that cats get when looking at string*

*gives you a ball of yarn*

This is kitty's yarn.

*points to the yarn going onto the loom*

That is 'Tivo's yarn. Kitties don't touch it, or else, no berry pies for them.

*Like any cat he eyes the loom yarn even with his own yarn* Ack no berry pies?! *toddles off to play with the yarn away from temptation*

*eyes you suspiciously* I know I can't win that easily.

In our old house, the looms were upstairs and cats weren't allowed. The door at the top of the stairs was always shut. Here I don't have that luxury. Fortunately, the cats are no longer young and they have left my weaving alone. (Though one found a loose end and unraveled almost the entire strap on one of my backpacks. Grrr.)

Ahh but I am under the spell of the berry pies that may be being made soon :)
*wrangles with the ball of yarn he was given*

The berry pies that will be made soon. I promise. Berries aren't ripe yet. Though I might find enough black raspberries now to make a batch of ice cream...

I'll take the pie :) *goes out and sits in front of the berry bush waiting for the berries to ripen*
